USB 3.0 is coming!

Super-Talent is going to release the first USB 3.0 pen drives pretty soon!
These babies can reach transfer speeds over 200MB/s using a USB 3.0 port and over 320MB/s using an USB Attached SCSI.

The available sizes will be: 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB.

They do know people need USB 3.0 ports if we want to achieve those speeds, right?

Of course. This is just the start.

Looking at the past: USB 3.0 > USB 2.0 & SATA 3.0 > SATA 2.0
USB 3.0 isn't going to stay for just 1 year or 2. It was made to last at least 5 years.

It's pointless to come out with USB 3.0 peripherals if the USB 3.0 compatible ports aren't even out yet. So right now, you're paying for a very expensive thumbdrive that you can't take full advantage of till after the USB 3.0 cards can be purchased for desktops. By then, the drives you'll be able to purchase will be cheaper and larger than now.

But, USB 3.0 as a standard will be great. It supports previous versions, so everything you already have will still work. The speed boost will be nice, and it looks like it's keeping up with other current technology.

Well, everything has to start somewhere. But yes, I argee with you, why have a prahibital that you can't even use to it's full potential?

Argh!

Just as I was getting used to my USB 2.0, technology passes me up again. I'd rather not have to change so soon if I don't have to. I'm pretty satisfied with 2.0 as is. It will be nice to have a better technology like this, but I don't think it will catch on very quick quite yet.

No. As far as I am aware, the ports will accept 2.0/1.1/1.0 devices without anything special. I'm guessing that the devices will work on at least 2.0 ports, though much like using 1.0 devices on 2.0 ports, or 2.0 devices on 1.0 ports, the full speed won't be reached.

Like you said above, USB 3.0 is fully backward compatible. Any USB 3.0 device will work on a 2.0 or 1.0 port, or vice versa. Although the speed benefits of USB 3.0 will only exist if both device and port are 3.0.

about FRIGGEN time, when I searched it up ages ago it was meant to be released years ago and was disappointed =/
For now the only useful part of this will be the huge storage capacity and replacing ports to 3.0 will be a **** nightmare on a laptop...

I wouldn't be worried about replacing ports on a laptop. You won't be able to do it anyway. Best option which may or may not achieve the same throughput would be to add a USB 3.0 port into a smartcard slot.

Haha yeah, I wouldn't worry at all.
The laptop I use to work still uses USB 1.0 and doesn't slow down my work progress at all
