I personally go in favor for farming, its a great skill. You get to go many places, see many things, unlike most skills where you can head to a bank and do most the work. But for farming its more challenging, because of waiting times, different locations, ect. Although I never have the time to farm much, its fun to me. There is a few things I dislike about farming, of course, as with every skill.

The rewards at high level don't seem that great to me compared to other skills. Admittedly they aren't bad by any means. But they aren't good enough to make me get 99.
I agree with that, I would enjoy more rewards for higher farming level. Although a spirit tree is a very nice reward for the high leveled farmers...

(sadly I can't plant one, but I got the seed.) Farming also helps with other things - like you can plant herbs, herbs train herblore, or you could plant food and use it(although the food don't heal much, its still food). You can plant hops which is used in making beer, and doesn't brewing beer train cooking...? You can also raise trees to cut, which is training woodcutting. Farming is a skill that is good for training other skills, which is another thing I enjoy about farming. What people dislike about farming is most likely they can't train it quickly, and easily. It takes time and patience for farming, and I enjoy that.
Overall, In my opinion, farming is a great skill, only a few things that I dislike.
