My computer just told me that I needed to download Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. I have a brand new Windows 7 laptop and this message hasn't come up before, do I need to download this and is it new?

.NET framework usually doesn't come as default on new PCs, or with the OS. It's a framework for several programming languages that's required by programs written in those languages to run.
However, any program that uses it should have an installer built in. Don't click on any links given by the message and get it from the Microsoft website. And maybe run a virus scan.
