Oh my goodness, we have that trailer playing at the movie theater I work for before the movie Life of Pi in 3D. I run in there whenever I can just to watch the trailer in 3D. It's awesome!!

So I just finished watching The Hobbit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was great but there were definitely some pros and cons to the film.

At first the 48 fps was very distracting - it just looked odd and out of place. However, about halfway through the movie I stopped noticing it. In all honestly it might be because the beginning isn't 'epic' so the high definition seemed out of place, but as the movie went on it became more epic and the high definition suited it.

Also, the beginning with Frodo and old Bilbo was a little cheesy. They both looked so much older (I mean it has been 10 years) so it was a little distracting. I think they probably could have done without it in the film, but I love Elijah Wood and Ian Holm so I don't mind.

ALSO there's a pale orc which they really could have done without. You'll see what I'm talking about once you see the film. His whole story line was just cheesy and unneeded, especially since he was not in the books. Also I thought the CGI on him wasn't that great.

By far the best scene in the film in my opinion was of Bilbo and Gollum playing a game of riddles. You could even tell they made Gollum look younger!

The one really depressing thing I noticed is that you meet Balin the dwarf in the Hobbit, (he's my favorite dwarf in the movie) but, if you remember correctly during the Fellowship of the Ring they find Balin's tomb in the Mines of Moria! And when you watch Fellowship of the Ring and you don't know who Balin is, it's not that sad, but once you know and love his character, it gets sad!

I need to watch the movie again to re-asses it now that my eyes are adjusted to the 48 fps. I'll probably go to the midnight premiere tomorrow as well, after work.

Tell me what everyone thinks after you watch the film!

Who is excited for The Hobbit?!!

So I realize the forums are pretty dead now, but The Hobbit is something worth talking about!

I'm a little worried they decided to split it up into three separate movies but as a huge Lord of the Rings fan, I completely trust Peter Jackson so I'm not too bothered by it.

Also I'm not a huge fan how they decided to portray the dwarves. The makeup is much more 'cartoon-y' than what they did in Lord of the Rings but then again The Hobbit is a much lighter read than LOTR and was meant to be more whimsical.

However, all qualms aside I am super excited for the movie! I work at a movie theater (we can see movies for free) so I'm definitely seeing it at least 25 times in theaters. It may sound crazy but I've seen each LOTR movie over 300 times. I even have a LOTR vinyl sticker on my car. And my laptop.. And posters all around my room.. And so forth. I'm pretty much the biggest LOTR fan you'll ever talk to.

But I'm excited to see how everyone else feels about it! Although I'm not expecting too many responses due to the lack of activity of the forums, but still, The Hobbit is definitely worth posting about.

OH MY GOD YOU'RE BACK YES FINALLY SOMEONE WHO POSTS OTHER THAN CREEPY
*breathes*
I just got back from watching it, actually. I was wary of it being a three hour long movie, but it did not seem like one at all! It was a FANTASTIC movie!

Saw it yesterday.

So first, complaints. I was disappointed they took some artistic liberties with the story. Galadriel was not in the book at all. She had no place being in Rivendell. In fact, I don't think that meeting takes place at all, but I should probably reread the book to see the differences. The pale orc, like you said Veggie, was very out of place. I think they just want to add to the drama of the movie.

That aside, now for praise. I'm glad they included the songs of the dwarves. They were a really nice touch and good part of the story in the book. They did a fantastic job with visuals. I think perhaps my favorite part was the storm giants fighting. It was a short scene, but to just imagine mountains fighting is awesome. I'm glad they threw in Radagast the Brown. Wonder what they will do with that storyline in the other movies. The portrayal of Erebus the dwarven kingdom was awesome. I could go on and on, but for the most part, it was a great movie. For the minor things I didn't like, Jackson made up for it in visual effects and sticking to most the story plot. Very good movie.

I asked my friends which one was Optimus Prime

Am I the only one who laughed at the Wilhelm scream?

Did you guys watch it in 2D or 3D in the 48 fps?

I haven't seen it in 2D yet because I've been working so much and I haven't had time to see it more than twice! However that will be fixed soon. I really want to see if I'll appreciate the movie more in just 2D because the 48 fps really messed with my mind.

However, the second time I watched it in 48 fps it looked a lot better. But I still want to see it in 2D.

I despise 3D films, so I'm biased, but I didn't have any issues with the 2D one other than having to sit on the second row

Same. 2D and very close to the front. It was good. I'm not a huge fan of 3D either. I don't really see how it's that great.
