With the introduction of the Grand Exchange, Runescape was changed forever. Goods were easier to obtain, and the merch clans took off. Now, any decent item is measured by how many mils it costs. People spend HOURS running the same agility course, just to gain a few levels. Runescape seemed liked a good casual game to play for those who dont have HOURS to put into a game like WoW. Now, it takes HOURS of repeated tasks get anywhere in Runescape. Every update brings an onslaught of trolls who dis-like it. Are the glory days of Runescape gone? Is it destined to slowly fade into the backround?

I would say that Runescape's " Glory Days " have been gone for awhile now. I would go as far as to say. Summoning came out. ( nothing against the skill, just time line wise )
I don't know why Runescape is so addicting. It is all repetitive tasks. For the most part , the community sucks.
( ohh... how many times.. some immature 12 year old. calling me a noob and to kill myself for no appertain reason )

Most of my friends don't play anymore. Now I love the GE. I do not miss standing at a bank. typing " buying whip 5mil " for hours. or even worse. items such as. big bundles of Logs or Fish. That was a pain.

I do hate how Jagex is making the game easier then it was years ago. I've put many hours into the game. and my skills still suck. eh. oh well.

While I remember the glory days, I think that the GE was one of (if not the) best additions Jagex ever made. I don't find merchers very disruptive, and now I can actually train efficiently because I don't have to stand around a bank for hours trying to buy something. As for Jagex making the game more accessible to new players, I generally don't have a problem with it, except when it gets in the way of higher levels or more experienced players. Hours of clicking may make skills such as Agility respectable, but it 99s are still hard to come by, albeit easier than before. Although the glory days are long gone, that doesn't mean I miss them, but I love the memory of them.

i actually miss the days of standing in a bank for a while to buy/sell something, id make business deals with ppl who would always be firemaking, fletching, runecrafting, etc. they would place an order of say 3k logs by a certain and id get so much money, and if i made that quota for them, id make decent cash. i also met a few of my long time rs friends this way. but i think the GE is good now for people who want fast results, but it takes away from the more personal aspect buying/selling had on players

I'd have to agree, Runescape's glory days are over, but maybe if they decide to do a true RS 3.0 some of what made the glory days glorious would come back. I do miss the feeling of walking around feeling like a benevolent and powerful knight in a medieval world, solving puzzles and helping out the commoners. Now even new players feel ungrateful, there's no admiring or people asking for help from more experienced players, all they have to do to get information is check the world map and the little help button.

I miss the learning curve that Runescape once had and the term "froob" which I never see anymore. I'd also say the other thing I hate are the ways people inflate prices when a new item comes out by junk trading to jack up the price. It's so annoying.

The general community has gone to **** in the last couple of years. Rarely will you meet a kind, respectful person who doesn't try to steal resources (especially while mining). I've run into a bunch of people who make fun of me because I have a Woodcutting cape on, calling me a "Wc noob", even when they don't have a 99 of their own.

I remember the glory days of being able to PK in the wild, being able to merchant herbs, being able to make millions on others losses.

yup

It's bound to go away sometime or at least become less popular. Eventually it'll happen. But if you really think about your logic, aren't most games just repeating tasks over and over. Halo: Reach...you fight and fight and fight to rank up. There isn't much too it besides getting good at aiming and avoiding being killed. I'd argue every game, in some aspect, is simply repetitive. This doesn't mean you don't play it. It just means it can get boring after a while. I do think the Grand Exchange was both a blessing and curse and that much has changed in the game since that has really taken away from the enjoyability of it. Doesn't mean I won't play it. I'll play it less and less, but I'll still play Runescape from time to time. It's a good enough game.

I don't mind the GE but I absolutely hate how EASY it is to do things in RS. One of the things I really hate is how Jagex is making almost every Holiday Event Item available at the same event the year after so there's really no need to do them every year. Which sucks because older/veteran players don't have the joy of having a special event item.

Jagex does too much hand-holding. It turned our already ******* community into some whiny spoiled 4 year old. It's the reason I have my Public Chat on Hide, I don't go on the RSOF, tip.it forums, Sal's forums, runehq, etc. Only RSBandB has a community with brains and who aren't afraid of actually working in-game.

The thing that put the nail in the coffin for me was the exclusion of the wilderness, plus the grand exchange, and a few "other things". Now even thouh the merch clans are gone, that still dosent stop the price manipulators
from causing mass chaos.

But i havent given up on it completley. The glory days era of this game are definitley gone. But, it's still a good game to play even though, there are some things in there that i think shouldn't be there.

Cheers, dafin0

i don't think you're elite enough to judge if runescape is getting better or worse.

i think the opinions of maxed total players would be more relevant as they have played almost every aspect of the game.

Sense makes this none.
Just because they've played the game longer doesn't mean they're smarter or more qualified. I'd say I've played almost every aspect of the game, with the exception of maybe some hard boss fights, but that's not far off.

As for price manipulation clans, they only make buying/selling things inconvenient for a couple of days. It's mainly an unethical leader or small circle making some quick cash.
