There is no need for swearing. What's do you benifit from swearing. Yea, you can say some offensive swear words (you can say some even now). In order to do that, they would have to go against the very thing that people get reported for. And i don't see them doing that any time soon. The only concern i have with this idea is that kids will repeat the words they see on screen.

Not a good idea if you ask me.

Cheers, dafin0

It'd be great if there was a switch in cc to keep the language rules in place or optionally lessen the restrictions. You enter a cc of your own choice and can leave it if you don't like what you hear. This would keep it clean in public but allow a little more freedom in private.

I could see one problem with this. Cybering. When you walk into the varrock bank on f2p all you see is "NEED BF/GF/OTHER UNSPECIFED GENDER1!!1elevenone!!11". Well when you give them the chance to speak freely they are going to fake ***. It's disgusting and I would rather not see it when I go on my f2p account. Kthxbai.

most people will agree that they want some way to disable or personalize the filter at the expense of not being able to report for rule 1 (DO NOT TALK ABOUT /B/).

That sounds a fair compromise... still difficult for Jagex to implement though, I imagine. :-k

Apart from that I agree with everything Rodsay has said. I have the language filter disabled on the forums for the sake of moderating convenience, however if there were one in RS I'd definitely keep it enabled. People here generally know how to control themselves, but I couldn't say the same of the general RS population. Every time I visit the GE there's at least one argument occurring and it literally just makes me want to log straight off. Sadly when I log back in later I'm still at the GE, therefore repeat.

Perhaps I should disable public chat...

I think at least 30% of Runescapes appeal is toward kids 15 and below. Many parents (or some parents) are conservative folks and they are very picky about what their children are involved in. If Runescape allowed swearing, that would turn off thousands of parents toward the game.

The only comment I have to say about the age thing is that the Runescape party that's coming up in Britain will be for more mature adults due to the fact alcohol will be at the parts. You know this is more an adult game when a Runescape themed real life event has alcohol at it. :D
