i still cant figure out how people that are other religions and atheist can celebrate Christmas. i aggravates me to no end. i girl i used to work with explained how she no ties with jesus or a god, but she cant wait til Christmas time. im not tryin to put down other religions. im just saying its called Christmas for a reason. if your not Christian, dont call it Christmas. call it present time for all i care, its not the true meaning anyways.

/end rant

hell, even if i was athiest i couldn't wait for Christmas time. Everything goes on sale and i almost get 2 weeks off from school.
if they can't wait for Christmas, that's a different story.
but I get your point and totally agree.

Mainly because of the commercialization of Christmas and the whole holiday season, the trend now is that it's becoming more secular, and this is just a product of the West's changing culture values. It's mainly, for many, become a holiday to spend with family and exchange presents, to listen to good holiday music and relax and take time off.

My friend's dad doesn't let him celebrate Christmas (well, he doesn't get presents) because he's an atheist. That's a little off the deep end, but it's fair. A lot of people are mooching off our religious holiday so they can get free stuff and time off from work/school.

but the exchanging of gifts comes directly from the bible with the wisemen and the birth of jesus. i agree that people should spend time with their families.

Christmas isn't ONLY about Jesus Christ, dude... Christmas is different to every family.

You family may celebrate by talking about God and singing prayers and such like my friend's family does. Your family may also celebrate it by just cooking dinner and then going to sleep. Your family may not even celebrate Christmas at all.

Or your family could be like mine.

To my family, Christmas is no more than a date of socialization. We all get together at my Grandma's house, because her living room is HUGE. We all then sit around, tell stories, watch TV, play games, cook dinner, etc. and then eat dinner and give out presents (cash, little games, stuff like that. nothing expensive), then go home in the wee hours of the morning.

Just because you're an atheist doesn't mean you're condemned from Christmas. That's like saying if you were an atheist that you couldn't celebrate your birthday.

On what Shreder said: I'm an atheist and I usually get really excited once Christmas rolls around, but it's really not my top priority of the year.

On what Keaton said: I'm an atheist, and I'm not "mooching" off my family to get free things. I don't even care about the presents, I usually get cash/dollar-store brand toys and I don't complain. I could care less.

As on Futurama, I think we should all start calling it X-mas (pronounced how it looks). That way, no one is offended. XD

But seriously, I do see what you are getting at and it's very true. There is a reason it's called Christmas. But as was mentioned earlier, with commercialization and all, no one really pays attention as much anymore. No body really puts the thought into why it's called Christmas. I don't really have any problems with that. I just frankly think it's not that big of a deal...yet.

im not a bible thumper, if thats what you are thinking. im just a normal person that thinks that it should be referred to as something else if your not christian, like as stated x-mas. im not saying that you and your families shouldnt spend time together and exchange gifts. its like being american and taking the day off for the mexican constitution day (feb 5). and im sorry if i offended anybody

Lol, people think dwelling over something as trivial as names is the best way to create tolerance or whatever, thus changing everything e.g. Christmas Season -> Holiday Season, Chirstmas Tree -> Holiday Tree. Then everyone else is like "NO ITS A CHRISTMAS TREE, NOT A **** HOLIDAY TREE OMFG!!!!!!"

Now if you're not religious, celebrate all you want, but don't call it Christmas? Is that really going to please God anymore than he is if non-believers are not calling their celebration Christmas?

I think if anyone wants to give gifts and get together in the name of Jesus, they can. But it should be realized that Christmas is largely just consumer culture.

If the majority of world are not allowed to celebrate "Christmas", why should any of us, including Christians, receive holiday breaks anyways? If it truly is that, December 25th should be a mandatory day for work/schools.

Easter is more of a christian holiday than Christmas is these days imo. Though that's becoming less and less about religion as well anywho. With that said christianity is about being nice and accepting others and all that lovey preechy **** so others celebrating the holiday shouldn't be a problem.

Well, it didn't used to be that way. But I completely agree that it is now for the most part. How to say, wrongly-placed-emphasis? Personally, I think all children should be spanked on Christmas and not given gifts to break this rampant consumerism. XD

Now you are crossing the line. We don't need to take this that far. [-X I NEED MY BREAK!!! Either give me my Christmas break or break me off a piece of Kit-Kat bar. I want unlimited Kit-Kat's in exchange for Christmas Break.

I have a question for Christians here. Do do anything at all related to Jesus' birth on Christmas day? Probably not. Do heathens? No, they don't. I don't see too much of a difference here.

Why give yourself A title in the first place?
I don't claim to be anything Christian or atheist, I just believe what I want. Do what I want, within locals laws mind you.

They claim to be, (insert religion here) but they're celebrating something else from another religion. Well then they're not from/in that religion.
Giving your self a title of what religion your said to believe in, is saying you believe in this or what have you. And nothing else.

Iunno I just find it funny, people now a days say they're such a thing or whatever, and they go and do such.

My self, I'm not anything, im just me..
