I've been thinking about the possibility of new battlestaves being introduced to the game for a while. I'm planning on posting this suggestion on the official forums, but I'd like to get some feedback here first to refine the ideas.

I doubt Jagex will ever introduce any more combo staves, since the only other combination include air, which would make combat spells too easy.

Most of the time, when members talk about combat magic, they're referring to Ancients. I think something needs to be done to boost the normal spellbook's combat spells a bit, so I thought of a new set of battlestaves that would provide benefits for using the elemental combat spells. They will all have the same statistics and provide an infinite amount of a single type of rune, just like elemental battlestaves.

In addition, each staff would have a 25% chance of causing 50% extra damage when casting an elemental combat spell of the same type. There would also be a special attach that uses half the special bar which causes the current autocast spell to be cast without using any runes.

Cyclone Battlestaff --> Air runes
Tsunami Battlestaff --> Water runes
Avalanche Battlestaff --> Earth runes
Inferno Battlestaff --> Fire runes

Statistics:
Attack
Stab +10
Slash -1
Crush +28
Magic +15
Range 0

Defense
Stab +2
Slash +3
Crush +1
Magic +15
Range +2
Summon +2

There will also be mystic versions of each of these staves, which increase the chance of the damage bonus to 33%.

Statistics:
Attack
Stab +10
Slash -1
Crush +40
Magic +20
Range 0

Defense
Stab +2
Slash +3
Crush +1
Magic +20
Range +6
Summon +6

While these "Catastrophe Staves" will be dropped by monsters, the will also be able to be created using the Crafting and Magic skills.

The first step in creating them is to buy an orb mould from someone at the Magic Guild. These moulds will cost # gp (I'm not sure how much this should cost yet) and will be untradable.

To make a "Catastrophe Orb", players must take 2 molten glass, a gem of the appropriate type (see below), and a gold bar to a furnace with the mould in their inventories.

Tsunami --> Sapphire (66 Crafting, 75 Experience)
Avalanche --> Emerald (67 Crafting, 87.5 Experience)
Inferno --> Ruby (68 Crafting, 100 Experience)
Cyclone --> Diamond (69 Crafting, 112.5 Experience)

This will create a "{gem type} Orb". Players will then need to cast the appropriate level enchant spell on the orb to make an "Uncharged {staff type} Orb". To create the charged orb, they will next need to cast the appropriate charge orb spell at the appropriate obelisk. From there, players will need to use the charged orb on a normal battlestaff.

Tsunami Battlestaff (68 Crafting, 150 Experience)
Avalanche Battlestaff (70 Crafting, 162.5 Experience)
Inferno Battlestaff (72 Crafting, 175 Experience)
Cyclone Battlestaff (74 Crafting, 187.5 Experience)

Does anyone have any thoughts on this idea?

Sounds like a good idea, the normal mage book definately needs more power. It is almost completely useless compared to ancient magicks when they ice barrage you and hit 30. You entangle back for 5 seconds less and deal 3 damage...that's not very helpful, is it?

The names sound cool but I don't really think I would like to use them in game seeing off from memory I can't even spell most of them. :oops:

I think the general idea behind the ancient spell book was for PVP spells, I can't think of many that use ancient spells for PVE tasks outside maybe big boss fights. I think the normal spell book is made and used for PVE so it works out well.

At least that's what I use them for.
