Why are initiate armor called sallets, hauberk, cuisse and not full helmet, platebody and legs? And why don't they have a kite?

Tbh, I think that Gower got a little too overconfident with his ability to write "RuneScript" and thought he could try to rename armor articles, but sadly its failing miserably.

No jk, actually im not sure. I havent done the quest myself, but is there some sort of reference in the quest as to why they are called this. I never noticed this before though. When i first saw your post i was about to say get off the German servers! :P This is interesting. Im gonna have to do a little research on this.

I think it's because all the knights are posh and "sallet" and "hauberk" sound alot more posh than helm, body, legs etc. :P

That was ten seconds at dictionary.com...come on guys lets not get lazy.

Probably he did it just to introduce a few new words into the game. Not surprisingly, these are all real medieval word for parts of a set of armor.

They are all taken from the literal (dictionary) meanings of the armor itself. Investigation led to French, German, etc original definitions of the words. Why the game authors chose those exact words??? You would have to ask the folks at JAGEX.

I would say, mainly because it isn't normal armor. Comes with a snazzy prayer bonous, and it is cheap, good questing armor.

proselyte trumps initiate any day though. better prayer bonus on the body and helm, and defense stats are same as adamant (iniate = mithril). but ideally, if you're not a pure and are looking for non barrows prayer armour, you should look to the helm of neitiznot instead of a proselyte or initiate sallet.

that seems like a likely reason.

it could be because its a unique type of armor, its not really like any of the other armors from what ive gathered. it may be made in a different way.
