just announced a while back that for people who are getting assassin's creed 2 for pc (which i doubt many of you would be) says that you must stay online to play. ookay one little problem. you cannot access the save files without connecting online and going through their system.
http://support.uk.ubi.com/online-services-platform/

What is the added value of this platform for PC gamers?
A CD/DVD is not required to play the game. The protected game can be installed as many times and on as many computers as you like! Saved games are also synchronized online so the user can continue playing from where he/she left off from any computer; at work, at a friend's place etc.
1. i dare you to play the game at work...

Is there an "off-line" option?
No. The added services to the game (unlimited installs, online storage of saved games and the fact that you don’t need the game disc to play) require you to have an online connection while playing the game.
hope you don't have a power outage or your modem stops work.

What will happen if I lose my Internet connection when I play the game?
If you lose your Internet connection the game will pause while it tries to reconnect. If the Internet Connection is unable to resume you can continue the game from where you left off or from the last saved game.
hmm nice but... this is a single player game, why should i have to reconnect to play by myself?

Do any services run when I am not playing?
No. The only service that might be running after you exit the game is the online synchronization of saved games which runs until it is completed. It is not a hidden window, so you can cancel it at any time, and it will finish the synchronization the next time you start the game.
why would i need to send my save files to them just so i can play?

Do you plan to implement this system on home consoles?
This system is for PCs only.
of course not.

Can I resell my game?
Not at this time.
well there goes my 5 bucks in the future

Can I resell my game along with my Ubisoft account?
Your Ubisoft account features your personal data and cannot be given or sold to anyone.

Do you have to be a member of Uplay to use this service platform?
This system requires you to have a Ubi.com account. A Uplay and a Ubi.com account are the same. You don't need to use Uplay to use this service platform, but if you wish to do so, it's very simple.

Why is Ubisoft forcing their loyal customers to sign up for a Ubisoft account when they don't want to give their private data and only play single player games?
We hope that customers will feel as we do, that signing up for an account will offer them exceptional gameplay and services that are not available otherwise.

what gameplay??? what service? this is like mw2. giving us something that we do not need

How about 20 years from now when the servers don't exist?

GG. Singleplayer games should be offline only.

I have no doubt someone will publish an offline crack for it within the next 20 years.

Other than updating achievements that is stupid to have to be online to play it. I don't see the point of it. That must be cutting their sales for those people who can't get a good connection to the internet or somehow don't even have the internet.

i'd say again it's to prevent piracy but then people are smart. 2 weeks top and we will have a way to go around it. we have all seen people playing online with mw2, they'll do the same with this game.

but just saying, they say that many people can play and install unlimited amount of time.
just saying, ppl cracked mw2 AND be able to play online, in about a month. this is almost nothing.

Ok, this just makes me want to pirate it more. Come on, stay online all the time? It doesn't even use online content for christ sakes. 'Digital Restriction Management' just screws over the common user. I'm not going to pay for a game that has no resale value, can't be played offline, and pauses whenever it loses connection to the servers.

Situation - My connection goes down for a few hours, along with the cable TV. What am I going to do? Oh, right. Play a Singleplayer game! Hm.. Quite a few choices, and none of them will need something I don't have.. Oh wait, Ubisoft was nice enough to make sure I couldn't play their game when it would make the most sense. Thanks!

When sales are down like crazy and a workaround is available to make this offline capable, they'll blame piracy for their stupidity. Fixing what these developers screw up, and getting blamed for it in return. PC gaming rocks.

Ya, this is definitely a bad idea. Requiring an internet connection to play a singleplayer game is bs imo. I'd sure this isn't going to work out and they'll have to spend a bunch of time patching it up and sending out a DVD to run off of. Hopefully, once AC2 goes down in price, this will be the case. But if it isn't, than I guess I'll just have to buy a console and play the game on it instead (which will never happen). :?
