So, lately I've been considering what the benefits are to certain models over others. For example, not until recently have I been on a couple sites that use vBulletin. I'm much more familiar with PHP formatting on many sites I visit. What are the pros and cons to both (if there are anything) and, in that regard, which one do you think is better (or that you would pick given the choice). Also, are there any other common forum/clan sites that use different formats besides vBulletin that are somewhat common or popular?

vBulliten is like $160 and has powerful features and strong security.
Some sites use IPB which is around vB's price.

For free ones phpBB is very popular, and I've seen a few SMF boards as well.

If given the choice I would choose phpBB. The price of vB and IPB is ridiculous.

Free is the way to go. :) I haven't heard of vBulliten but anything that costs is usually better than the free stuff.

I have always been a firm believer in Phpbb, and probably will be until something better comes a long. Heck, even these forums are powered by Phpbb :P
