I've never been too fond of the mercher clans, but I haven't really cared until recently, where I lost a lot of the money I was looking forward to because the merch clans crashed the price. I don't like the way they can manipulate the grand exchange, and I wouldn't mind if Jagex locked the item prices.

I think that they should just go after the leader/leaders. They undoubtedly know about the clans, all they need to do is look at the IP of the "cc owner", and ban the other accounts on that same IP, because the leader probably uses the same computer.

Now, on the other hand, the merchanting clans that do not tell you what to buy, that do not run pyramid schemes, who just teach you how to merchant effectively, and things like that, those aren't a problem.

All merchanting clans are a scam by nature no matter what the leaders' intentions are. They're all pyramid schemes, with some profiting generously, few profiting occasionally and most losing commonly.

No... they are not all a scam.

They're all a scam whether or not the leader intends to scam people or not. Even if the leader chooses not to sell first (which would be incredibly stupid) a large amount of people will be forced to sell at a loss, with the leaders being well aware of this. Merchanting clans are Ponzi schemes and not investments. Ponzi schemes are illegal, at least in the U.S.

Not sure of Ponzi schemes are illegal in the U.K. but I know if you don't listen to clan leaders, you could make money, selling before they all sell, so they lose money selling at a later time. However I'm not sure if that works, never been apart of a merchanting clan. I wish it did, put some merchanters in their place and get them really angry.

I've had that same thought in mind and I'm pretty sure it could work. You just have to get the timing down and do it at least 1 or 2 days in advance. You could probably pull it off, but you have to have the right timing. The other thing you can do is just sell in increments. If the item is double what you bought it for, sell half of it. If it goes up more, sell some more, and just keeping doing that until you are satisfied. Theoretically, you'd make money no matter what time you sold and it would still be a good profit. 8)

I agree completely lol...Noob merch clan leaders/advertisers spamming all the chat at the ge. They're fails. I also agree that the people should just lock the item prices forever. They should be certain prices.

I dislike merching clans. But if you sell about a week before the clan tells you to sell you can make decent profit.
