tormented demon a boss or not?

not really, all depends at how you look at them
There's more than one spawn, so I don't consider them a boss

it's a boss. :)
Not a boss. A boss has one spawn.
The Mithril Dragon, level 304, is not a boss, because there is more than one of it.
The Giant Mole, weighing in at only 230, IS a boss because only one of it exists.
Therefore, Tormented Demons are NOT bosses.
(But they are... Like a boss!)
