It's such a shame they don't have my major.

Don't worry. If you are a white male the chances of you getting in there a prreeetttyyyy much 0.
Also, everyone gets those letters.
Your name fits your personality, sir. You also doubt my credentials, which I very much resent.
Food science. I could stretch and go for biochemistry, but I'd prefer not to.
Sounds like biochemistry would be a good choice (from its description on wikipedia). What do you like about it? What school are you thinking?
My best friend: Graduated from a prestigious private high school in Rhode Island. 2340 SAT. 4.0 GPA with 5 APs. 4 years of high school soccer, and All State trumpet player. Waitlisted at Harvard.
Not saying you aren't good or anything. Just saying that if you are a white male you are at a huge disadvantage. Got to be black or indian to get into the top Ivy now a days.
"black or indian"
Also if his essays suck he had no chance. Having perfect scores means nothing if your essays sucks because everyone has a perfect score.
Wow, okay, although my SAT is 60 points lower, that's about where I am. I wasn't going to apply, just a pipe dream.
I'm probably going to go to Purdue University. It's close (don't stalk me), and has a terrific Food Science program with a great success rate.
Thinking you are going to get in place just because of your score is also a pipe dream (its a great score and will at lower tier colleges) but you need to take into account the power of essays at ivy
@Macbeth I'm talking statistically. Schools take a certain number of each race as to seem "diverse". And in the end it's bullshit because if 75% (an estimate) of your applicants are white and you (1/2
are trying to keep your student body (at Harvard) at 48% white, guess who gets ****** in the end? http://bit.ly/18X1bUe
The fact that a student has to fill out what race they are on college application is bullshit. Keep it anonymous and then you will have the people who deserve to go to ivy leagues going.
Doesnt it let minorities get in with lower scores? Did you apply to Harvard or an Ivy and not get accepted?
Nah. I didn't work that hard in school. Average student. And that is the point. If you are a minority with lower scores, GPA or a worse essay, you can still get into those schools because of yourcolor

I agree with Killjoy. Race should have no bearing on the level of academics required to get entrance to an institution.
Killjoy's point about having to fill out race on an application sheet is oh-so-true.
Also, I'm not trying to be a downer here. Absolutely apply even if you have the slightest chance of getting in. You might be one of the lucky ones. I'm just pointing out a flaw in the system
Its not that big of a deal. A lot of schools don't practice it and don't require (or even allow you to put it) on the application.
Sure. But then you won't get in because you don't count towards their diversity numbers. If you are black, Asian, or Indian of course you would put it.

How did they know you were a successful student and scouted to have you apply? I know nothing about this, if I had received one of these letters, I'd freak out in excitement. Is it really not that gr8?
Schools with higher racial and financial diversity often receive more endowments. Most of the time people who go to school very cheap to prestigious schools do it because of that.
If your planning on getting into a school just because of your grades you shouldn't be looking at any private schools, typically state schools (in the US) or gov funded schools look mostly at grades.
And on another note you were probably on a list for taking the SAT. I know I used to get many letters from colleges saying: "You've been selected" etc.. Truth is you're just another name on a list.
Ok, I didn't JUST take the SAT. I got a 2280. So yeah, I may be lower-tier for that stuff, but stranger things have happened. Plus, read what I said above. I plan on going to an in-state public school
I'm sorry I posted this... 25 comments is far too many. Please just let it rest. I don't even plan to pursue an ivy league school so let's move on.
