Not sure about them releasing RS3 so soon. Glad that the java version will remain open for a few weeks at least. I'll try the HTML5 one but if it is as laggy as it currently is I won't use it.

They did some pretty nice optimizations today, I'm running it on an older computer at about 15 fps with everything maxed except water.
Specs? It runs good for me in some areas but terrible in others. Only correlations seem to be water and shadows.

I can run shadows fine, but water still makes it pretty choppy. I've got an Intel Core i5, and AMD Radeon HD 6450

It still runs really slow for me on a system that runs every other current game with maxed settings :(

I thought they were keeping the Java version for older computers?
Seems like Jagex is pulling an EA and trying to hit deadlines rather than getting updates polished and bug-free before they release them.
I'm more hoping it's expanded to use all of the browsers before it goes live instead of just lousy chrome.
Same for me, Hayden.
@Earth, they will keep Java for a few months and then move wholly to HTML5, I guarantee you. They will remain the largest Java game due to OldSchool, even when RS3 isn't Java.

Trust Jason, trust. Java will stay around for more than a few months. Look how long the old fixed window has stuck around. It's also needed for the lower end machines.
UI vs Platform is two different things, Shane. It's 'comparing Apples to Oranges'. You know this.
But heck, they should move to only HTML5! Java is old, HTML5 is new! Move forward not backward!

What I meant was the legacy mode to knock the game back to fixed window, no textures, no anti-aliasing, bad lighting, etc. They're only now forcing those away with the HTML5 client.
By Forcing those away they are forcing Lower end(read "Average") computers and players away. Jagex has never cared about lower end machines(they have consistently proven this over the years).
