The trouble with not being consistent with your graphical updates.
Could easily include some kind of magical power spreading from the orb into the rest of the staff.

The animation kinda makes sense of it. It shows you putting the orb into the staff then it transforms.

Well I've only found 1 video of anyone making battlestaves recently, and they have the interface covering their character.
