Tip: Fire surge wrecks QBD. Especially the tortured souls. Ignore the souls they barely even touch you. Only kill the one that prevents time stop.

I've been doing it with a staff, works just fine.
Trekkie, use a staff of light, should work just fine

I've been using water surge with a master wand and a dfs (magic) and thats been going pretty well :). I've not got the level for fire surge
