The majority of hate on SoF is directed towards the buying spins aspect, which was almost entirely excluded from Jagex's response. Putting in that combat rework at the end was a nice tactic, though.

In reality, its not, I enjoy SoF with the free spins you get and I think its a good idea. 120k people online is not a game that is dying. This is probably the best way RWT could be done in RS
