Yeah that's true but I'd much rather notifications, doesn't really have to be in your face either. Just a little notice in the corner or something

No. Adding notifications would be too much work for the server to constantly be checking. Imagine if a post had 20+ replies and everyone wanted to be notified when new things are added.
