For anyone who is having trouble with the 1.8 prerelease crashing because of furnaces burning, I have found that turning off the music helps

Also to anyone, don't exit a crafting bench or furnace when something is already in it. The items with drop back on the floor and duplicate and cannot be picked up. This could cause annoyance.
