It's weird... When the shuttles are all retired, it will feel like the dry spell following the Columbia disaster all over again until a new series of vehicles are developed. Any news on that front?
The orbiters are being sold off to various museums. The plan is to use private space flight for the near future for ferrying crew back and forth to the space station.

I kinda welcome the privatization of space travel, there's competition there then, forcing the need to be the fastest, safest, and the company that can offer the most, ie more locations. ;)
The problem with privatization is that they can't tackle the large projects needed to stay ahead. Longer life space station, back to the moon, and eventually a moon base.
