What do you believe is more of a universal language, math or music? Shane and I were having this debate earlier, and we're definitely on opposite sides of the river, me for music, him for math.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to agree with Shane and say math - pretty much everything can relate to maths, and anyone can use it, whether they be deaf, blind or even both; whereas music doesn't...
You can't relate a wall or something as insignificant to music as much as you can to maths. So...yeah...maths.
after a long and painstaking contemplation process, i have chosen music, because of it being able to touch anyone and everyone, and change people

Music conveys a lot to a person, and Burnt Joint, a blind person can use music, and so can a deaf person, Beethoven was deaf as he conducted orchestras. Blind people has a more keep listening ear,

so they can listen to music. If you are into music a lot, music tells a story, even if there are no words. You just have to find it. People come together because of music all over the world.
im going with music, and to counter burnt joint, look at Ray Charles, he was blind and he could play piano, and i have also heard of a deaf drummer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGxbQJAxUHs.
that is a video proving the deaf can play music, and as for relating a wall to music? what about the pinkfloyd album, the wall? besides, how can you express yourself with math? oh, i feel like pi?
with music, each song has a specific mood it makes you feel, and pretty much everything can relate to music, here is a jeep as an instrument, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFybwg4wadI.
maths to be the language of the people that can't do music, or wont do it.
ignore^
what i meant thought after posting it, was that math is a part of music, so really both are the language, but if you think pythagorean theorum, then thats the more academics than musicians.

Of course Shane would say maths, he's far too rigid and traditional to understand the variety of music.
music all the fucking way
ITT: Artfags vs. Sciencefags
That's pretty much all it boils down too. And for the record - I'm not oblivious to the feats of Ray Charles, Beethoven or any other disabled musicians...
But think about it; Maths effects us and is used way more than music ever will be. If you read the question, It asks exactly that; Not what effects us more emotionally, but is more universal...
And maths is the most universal language that civilization speaks.
music, almost everyone likes music, it is a big part of many cultures!
Math, or music without lyrics.

Music is much more culturally attuned. Almost everyone, no matter who poor or uneducated will know some kind of music, it's much more far reaching. No question.
I agree with Brad entirely ;)

I would say Music, but Shane (from what I've heard) can explain anything with Math, so maybe Math is the universal languange...
you can't tell stories with math, you can tell stories with music. i mean yeah, math is important, based on your profession, but, just looking at it square, music heals all wounds. from my experience
Me: O shit! I cut off my arm!!!!
Ethan: Don't worry! Music will heal it!
*plays music*
*arm's still gone, I'm somewhat bleeding to death*
Me: ...
Me: It's not working D:
Oh, and don't forget; Without maths, you couldn't count. I'd much rather be able to count, do basic and even advanced arithmetic than excel in music. But that's just me. Coping in society = win!
you would learn to deal with the wound and would adapt so you would still be able to perform. and really, you would just need to be able to feel the rhythm, and improvise, and you have music.
Since the age of rock and stone, mankind tried to produce music. Either with bones to make flutes, animal skin to make drums, we've always had music. Music carries our feelings through time.
Music, definitely. Math, you have to have experience to know and understand. Music is the collaberation of a lifetime experience of sound.
Unless you're looking at the mathematical visions of things.
