Could I use unholy symbol and proselyte legs to up my prayer bonus and still work well?
What do you bring in the way of food/potions?
Wouldn't ring of wealth be better?

You won't need food, you will be praying the entire time. Bring a zamorak brew and a super strength, and 2-5 prayer potions

Exactly what I use. And wealth is for novices.
I think I'd use Lumby ring 3 since it gives 30 free low alchs, 3 50% energy boosts, infinite two-click no-dialog teles, and +1 to prayer.
What would be better, Whip/Fally shield, SS, or ZS?
Whip, but I'd suggest a defender. And if you can afford, zerker is best for slaying.
Why rune defender over Fally shield and why would you suggest a berzerker helm over the slayer helm if I'm doing a slayer task?
Zerker ring, not helm. Shield wise, it's debatable, I just always used defender.
Defender = higher accuracy
And hits than the shield, but at mages it might not make a huge difference, due to the low defence. I always use defender.
Sorry, I'm not going to spend 5m on a +4 str ring. That'll add just over 1 point of damage which in my book isn't worth it for the cost.
I''m not a str guy, so I'll go with the fally shield.
I use proselyte plate and legs, fury, whip, fally shield, zamorak cloak,d boots, and of course slayer helm. & I never use prayer potions, I just use my fally shield to get to 99/99 prayer,
then get 40 kc, hop in the boss room after a team killed k'ril & restore pray, tele out, and repeat. :)
