Last year some of you may remember my post about Hurricane Earl striking the east coast of the US. While Earl did very little to the east coast, a new tropical system, Hurricane Irene, is poised to hit the Carolinas as a major hurricane (category 3) and then move up the east coast. Irene is currently a category 2 hurricane with winds of 100mph and is located just north of Haiti. The cone of certainly goes from near the Georgia coast to about 200 miles offshore. If you live anywhere from South Carolina all the way up to New England, you at risk of being struck by this hurricane and need to take this seriously, regardless of where it actually goes. This is going to come MUCH closer to the coast than Earl did and is actually expected to make landfall around North Carolina Saturday afternoon. There hasn't been a hurricane up here for about 20 years, the time is coming. You have about 4 days to prepare for this hurricane if you live in the possible risk areas.
It's all about which section of the cone Irene follows. If Irene stays to the west side of the cone, there would be absolute devastation all throughout the Mid-Atlantic. If it follows the middle path, it will wreck havoc along coastal areas, and moderate effects inland. However, if it stays to the east, it will end up just like Earl, with minimal effects to any land mass south of New England.
Forecast path of IRENE and more information

I will update you with any important information if necessary.
Irene is now a category 3 (major hurricane) with winds of 115 mph. Do not take this storm lightly. Now is the time to make preparations.

I am so glad they took Florida out of the cone. Sadly it still ruined my beach plans for the weekend...

Yah, Depending on where it goes we may get hit here in Central Pennsylvania. I remember about 10 years ago getting hit by a tropical storm here. But, a hurricane is pretty rare.

I like it. We never get anything to hit us. Where I am. If it stays on strength and course then it'll still be 60mp winds by the time it hits Maine.
I never get why little weather change and people panic and take it over the top. I'll enjoy the wind storm out on my deck.

Technology really has spoiled us. Hurricane Irene knocked out our power for 15 hours and cell service was also down. We were lost without our computers or tv, lol. I picked up a magazine to read for the first time in years, and dug out an old battery operated radio to get weather updates. We had just gotten done buying bags of ice to make sure our freezer stuff stayed cold, when the power came back on. Kinda makes you want to learn the "old" ways of doing thing's that don't rely on technology or electricity.
