I have managed to unlock the first 4 spells from Livid Farm, and I have to say that they are much more useful than I had anticipated. My original thought was that they were duplicative of spells which already exist, but it turns out that they are different and very useful.
The Falador teleport takes you to the southern gate of Falador, below the mining guild, which will be useful in a different way from the usual spot or the Cabbageport.
The Ardougne teleport also takes you to a new spot, the gate right next to the west bank - this may be one of the closest bank teleports. It isn't very close to the farm, but as pointed out in the last podcast, that isn't needed for those with the Ardougne cape.
The repair pouch spell not only saves the time needed to speak to the dark mage if you use the NPC contact spell, but it lasts for a LONG time. I have repaired the three largest pouches once each, having done a fair amount of runecrafting this week (Livid Farm does consume an enormous quantity of Astral and Nature runes). The giant pouch still hasn't decayed even though I had to then repair both the large and medium pouches. I don't know how much longer it will last, but it is far longer than the usual duration.
The remote farming spell is amazing. Really amazing. It literally gives you a chart listing EVERY SINGLE farming patch on Runescape with your current status. You can see if it is empty, weedy, full of crops, dead, ready to check health, or diseased. If it is diseased, you can click on that patch and cure it for free. What a boon to farmers!
I am taking a break from Livid Farm for a while, since my current goal was to get the farming spell. I think that the highest 2 spells will be fantastic for PKers, but I don't PK so I am not sure how much use they would be to me.
In addition, I felt like the experience gained doing Livid Farm is a great way to grind the skills involved. The magic and farming experience are quite hefty: about 44k magic xp per hour, and about 33k farming xp per hour. In addition, you can expect to receive about 13k crafting hourly, as well as 6k agility and 6k construction. I think those are very decent rates, considering that they are essentially a side effect of working to unlock these useful spells. Even after unlocking the spells, some players might find this to be a good way to work on these other skills, possibly as a break from usual grinding methods.
In all, I felt that the update was a very good one, much better than Shane and Chief gave it credit for in their update last week!
