"As my foot touched the first icy cobblestone, a sense of dread flowed through my already shivering limbs. I could feel a presence, powerful and malevolent, hidden in the darkness before me. Cautiously, I rounded the corner, and was hit by a blast of hot, sulphur-smelling air. There was a sound of cracking bone and gristle that turned my stomach. Then my eyes adjusted and I saw it: a hulking demon, sitting before a blood-spattered stone door and feasting on the bodies of my fallen brothers. It was in that moment, as I raised my axe and prepared to charge for vengeance or death, that I gave the place the name it now bears...the Dungeons of Daemonheim."

It’s out! The new skill is here and it’s available on free-to-play! You’ll receive all the equipment you need to train the skill when you arrive, so catch a boat to Daemonheim from behind the Al Kharid bank to start your new adventures!

Within each dungeon, the adventuring party is asked to solve puzzles and fight monsters, while using their skills to overcome the fiendish challenges that stand in their way. Use your skills to equip your party members, search for loot and keys and explore the floor until you find the epic boss monster at the end.

The environment contains hundreds of new objects, NPCs, rooms and locations covering an area more than 60 times the size of Falador – more than any single update ever has!

After adventuring (with a group of up to 4 other players), you’ll be able to access a wealth of new skill upgrades and reward items, including new weapons and armour for both the free and members’ game.

If you have any questions, please use the dedicated forums (Adventuring Parties, Dungeoneering Feedback and Dungeoneering Help) and read the associated KB articles.

Well it's possibly the worst name for a skill ever. And it's a tad bit confusing.

I'm floating in the middle because It confuses me...I'm really not sure what..the benefits are. I was running through some level with a 133 and it was fairly mindless till it spawned us on a level with no decent weapons..all i had was some crap spear and that's when i saw what they wanted us to do cause i had to go hunt down weaker monsters, gather up bits to create a better weapon.

But again I'm not reaaallllyy seeing the reward for it. Sorta like a mashed together version of WOWs raiding and monster hunter.

I'm thoroughly unimpressed so far. I've been playing it for over an hour so far and have just managed level 4. And to call it a "skill" is frankly ridiculous. It's just a big mini-game where you earn tokens for underwhelming rewards. And yet again, Jagex insists on making nearly all of the new weapons and armour DEGRADABLE. The "skill" itself has absolutely no use and is totally irrelevant to RuneScape. The only reason worth doing it is the rewards, which are tragically poor. It takes far to long to earn them, and even when you do, they only last a few hours. It's a if it began life as a mini-game, Jagex got over-excited and decided to label it a "skill". It's not. It's a mini-game and that's exactly what it feels like.

One word to some up this sorrow update- tragic.

...Uh...Yup. Apparently your looking at 2mill to repair the weapons. Never liked degrading armour/weapons. Never have done. Never liked earning money either it bores me and I'm more and more forced into it.

Skill is once again, much like summoning packed full of clutter that is useless and isn't needed.

I do not understand there new aim with this game it seems to be several things;
Very F2P focused
Very combat focused
Very copywhatwowisdoing focused

Go back to what you used to **** do you was a success then. EVERY other dev copies wow don't do it yourselves. Stop over complicating skills, stop cluttering them up with **** and stop obsessing over combat and new weapons and all this ****. IF i wanted that I'd play WOW cause frankly they do it better than you!

The only good thing I've seen in this skill is it going to 120. I think that's a great idea. You even screwed that up tho jagex cause you didn't bother to expand the other skills why the hell not? I could ignore your "skill" much like i ignore summoning and go woodcut.

edit: Read over this again i think i was slightly to harsh. The skill i think is ok. I like the whole collecting stuff up, upgrading your weapons and stuff to prepare for whats coming up. I do not like the rewards once again there all useless none of them interest me what so ever. And i don't like how i only get exp once i leave.

I'll wait to pass judgement until I get home but judging from this limited feedback, I'm in for a whole load of disappointment. It really is a shame.

Edit: Just got through a lengthy play session with a friend. We both enjoyed it, as it's more engaging than most things Runescape has to offer. However, we both agreed that voice chat is all but necessary. Without it, you're likely to be spending more time typing than playing. This is definitely a skill for friends/clans who aren't afraid to hop on voice together.

While it sounds decent to play, Jagex has esentially slapped the name skill on a minigame. It has all the traits of a minigame: it occurs in only one place, you can buy rewards, and you achieve points from completing puzzles and such. It's basically an amped up minigame. And making us choose between xp and rewards? That's just cruel.

2/5 because it's a decent minigame, but a terrible skill.

I'll do a before and after. First before...

This skill doesn't sound very exciting. In fact, it doesn't even really sound like a skill. Sounds more like my combat training ever since I've played Runescape. :P To me, this sounds like a flop for a skill. From the start, I didn't think they had much potential left for skills. They've pretty much done everything that you could possibly think of. Or at least that's how it seemed to me. I figure the game was good before this skill and unless they can really come up with that's useful and actually realistic, then they might as well not make one at all. Grated, it's always difficult to make a new skill, but I'm sure there were better skill ideas than Dungeoneering.

Afterword to come soon.

P.S. Only 144 people are on the list as being over lvl 30. :P

When I heard the new skill was out I was kind of disappointed about only having 5 days of members left. But I don't particularly like minigames -- and wouldn't want to play them to the same extent as I train skills. Playing stealing creation just to get half a 99 was bad enough, so I guess it is ok that I canceled members.

After 2 hours I got 512 xp and didn't really enjoy myself that much. I don't think I would want to train the skill much unless it gets up to at least 300k xp/hour midway. XD Maybe my reaction is just like my reaction to farming, think its terrible at first but later find it is okay.

I completely agree with what you have to say about the skill being more of a mini-game than a skill. In fact, that's exactly what i thought when i read what Jagex had to say about it before i tried it! It is disappointing that this is what Jagex made of the new skill. On the flip side though, this is new content, and I'm always pleased to see that Jagex is thinking about the future of their game. And as some people have said, it is engaging.

This also reminded me of Jagex's newest (worst) f2p/p2p quest.

.............................................................................................
P.S. I just had a few great rounds of dungeoneering and realized that one of the great things about this skill is that it's an amazing way to meet new people. It forces people to work together and communicate, and that's what made me some new good friends in dungeoneering.

as i read over all the comments and have played 3.. almost 4 hours of it ive came to the conclusion that jagex has made a minigame skill lol. to a very small few i think this might be a good update.

personally i like some of the rewards like the poison thing and the frost book that gives us the ability to burst/barrage with a good staff + not use up water runes.

but still those are uber costly in tokens >.< so idk if id rather pay for the runes/antipots... or go spend loads of time to get it.. 3k xp/hour isnt too charming

At first i said "Wow this is awesome getting exp. with friends what could be better" until i realized it took me 20 minutes a level and it got boring after 20 minutes, really disappointed hopefully like the summoning skill last year they will have some expansions or something to add like the titan monsters. otherwise it has to be the worst skill and with no cash benifits, because the only other slow skill at that level i can think of is runecrafting but it is great for cash.

1/5 really disappointing.

The way I see it, there are two major flaws with Dungeoneering- three if you count the ridiculous name. Even if you enjoy the new skill, these two problems still persist:

1) It's been said hundreds of times already- it's a mini-game and not a skill. It's totally detached from the rest of RuneScape, and whilst other skills like mining, summoning, woodcutting, etc. may be less interesting, they're vital for keeping RuneScape running the way it does. Dungeoneering is just like any other mini-game in that it wouldn't make the slightest difference if it didn't exist. In short, Dungeoneering is a useless skill which serves next to no benefit to the game as a whole.

2) Why, oh why are the combat items degradeable? What is Jagex's fixation with making us spend either loads of money or hours of time to earn "tokens" to repair broken swords and helmets? Do they not wonder why, with the exception of Barrows, all the degradeable combat items in RuneScape are barely used? For me at least, these items are a waste of time to earn, which leaves very little incentive to train the skill.

Jay called it spelunking. I think they should change the name to that.
