Great Books of the Western World

My philosophy teacher has been ranting and raving over this collection of works known as the "Great Books." This 60 (formerly 54) volume set is a collection of what Encyclopedia Britannica labels as important works of the western canon. Though on Amazon it costs $1,000 brand new, there are probably places you can get it for cheaper. You could always buy the books and manuscripts by themselves and still get all the information. The older 54 volume set wouldn't be bad. All that's missing is newer content. Still, $16.67 (at the $1,000 price) for each volume isn't too bad. This series contains a lot of the stuff from Ancient Greece (for over 10 volumes by itself!) on forward to more modern works ranging from literature to manuscripts and documents from people like Descartes, Tolstoy, Twain, etc. (Only a few of the many great authors) Now, this isn't an add pitch. In fact, you would probably be better off going to a library to borrow them. But, if you guys ever wanted a good read, I think this is where it's at. What do you guys think?

P.S. I will get this series for myself one day when I have the money and the time to read all the books.
