I need to send my iTouch to Apple. I want to, but the problem is I jailbroke it a while back, and since have restored it. Will Apple know I did this? And, is there any other way to fix a broken headphone jack?

If you restore it will delete everything and put on the iPhone OS. How would they know when it's been wiped?

You can fix it yourself but if it's still under warranty and it's got the default firmware, I don't think they can do much. At least in the sense of finding out if it was previously jailbroken.

Chances are, you'll be getting a different unit back anyway.

If you really want to get rid of any data, you could fill it up completely with stuff. That'll make sure every 1 and 0 is overwritten with new data then they won't see anything at all. But eh whatever I don't think they will know.

All they do is do a quick check-over then dump it in a pile, so I really don't think it's going to be an issue. They're just going to look for obvious signs of abuse, dysfunctionality beyond what you have stated, or signs that you have opened it.

Oh, and like a custom firmware or something obvious.

I don't think it's illegal, it's just something Apple doesn't like. You bought hardware, and you buy their software. You use a freely available program that causes the device to behave differently, allowing you to access more features in your preexisting device.

No matter how much Apple dislikes it, simply jailbreaking is not against the law. There is a reason that it has never been brought to court, and Apple knows it.

No but I highly doubt he jailbroke the ipod for the hell of it. The only reason to jail break them is for free apps and songs. Unless you really want different background or something of that nature.

I won't argue that. I'm just saying the act of jailbreaking, or having a jailbroken device isn't illegal.

On that note, gotta love WinterBoard and SBSettings. I'd jailbreak just for those.

I didn't jailbreak mine yet, and I don't know if I want too. I've seen some people here with problems before and don't know if Apple will actually fix it. So maybe I just won't risk it. :?
