Good point, You're right.
Maybe we shall just accept the fact unknown users post on Runewire. /wisdom

Or at least, I just think it should not be like:

Post 1 - I hunt dragons for visage
Post 2 - I killed a dragon!
Post 3 - I killed another dragon!
Post 4 - I killed another dragon!
*to infinity and beyond, until the person realise he wont get a visage and quits for a week*

That's horrible that new users are being pushed away as soon as they join.

It's like those people who brag about listening to a band before they got "popular" and then when the band does get popular, the person will find something else that's not so "mainstream". No one else cares that they used to listen to it.

Get over it. New people are going to join. We are not some elitist community, we should have some respect for new users.

You can always just use the "Friend's Activity" to view updates from the people you care about only. In fact, maybe that should be the default view (like twitter) if there are more users in the future. But right now, 5 pages worth in a day is hardly anything to complain about.

After looking at some of the posts on RW, I'm really surprised at how some of your react to new people joining up. When RuneWire was first created, it wasn't made with just RSBANDB users in mind. This is plainly obvious in that we didn't link RSBANDB accounts to RuneWire and we didn't use the forum's set of rules to govern it. This service was made in effort to promote a large community where players of RS could get to know new people, post their accomplishments, and give advice to others. It wasn't made for RSBANDB members to just chat amongst themselves and I don't know why any of you would get that impression and then take it upon yourselves to post so thoughtlessly. We have Clan Chat, the forums, XBL events, and plenty of other ways for RSBANDB users to chat with each other. You have the right to your opinion, but badmouthing our first chance at notoriety was just..well, it was pretty low.

As Mike said, if you only want to see your friend's posts, then you have that ability. But for now, I'm pretty disappointed in what happened.

I'm glad to see others thought the same as I did.

It was a grand total of 18 new users, with about 5 people making more than one posts. That really isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. People were complaining solely because these users were new, and that because of this, "Runewire was changing" and that "they'd like it to go back to the way it was" and that they'd "use the friend's activity because of all the posts". Bull ****. 3 days later, we only had 1-2 pages a day.

The content of the new people's posts were fine, they probably left because they got the impression that they weren't welcome here, which is completely false, and I myself am a bit ***** off that this happened. I guess the people against the whole thing forget that they were also new here at Rsbandb at one point. We all were. They might have migrated over to the forums and might have become valuable members in our community, but I guess we won't know that now.

I think those who are ultimately against growth should offer to donate the costs of running the site each month that are not covered by the ads. Or come up with another scheme for mike/shane to break even that does involve gaining members

Not much can be done to change our current members attitude towards new members but we might be able to offer suggestions to new members on how to act so they'll have a better chance of being accepted. Nothing drastic but a simple Runewire welcome message with some helpful guidelines (not the rules) to make it easier to blend in with the group.
- avoid repetitive posts
- crop your images
- don't just post what you're doing, respond to others
- more posts about Runescape than other topics

Might even get someone involved in officially welcoming new members by responding to their first post. Maybe if we can offer more positive messages at the beginning, they might not be discouraged by any negative ones they get.

That's a good idea, Addiv.

It is quite sad that a lot of the new people left. From their initial posts they seemed like nice people who really did know what they were doing on the site; a lot more than one could say for the average RuneScape user.

I'm sorry but I just have to point this out. :) This is rather funny to me.

Don't just post what you're doing? It says in the logo, "What are you doing in RuneScape?"

A number of you all don't like the idea of RuneWire posts consisting of:
"Killing a dragon." What's the difference from that and what I commonly see:
"Doing clue scroll."
"Farming run."
"Kingdom."

My stand on hasn't changed from my first post regarding this issue, this post is just food for thought. :D

I think you're missing the second part of what Addic was saying there. He's encouraging people to reach out and reply to other posts.
