RuneScape and Punctuation!

Has someone using punctuation at the end of a typed sentence ever killed a mood for you?

Let's talk about how badly punctuation can really affect a conversation.

Firstly, periods.
They make the person sound... kind of stuck up and serious, even though they might not be. It makes everything sound so boring as everyone else is laughing away around you. Let's try a few examples.

Something familiar; LOL
Think about how much the mood of 'lol' changes when adding punctuation after it.

lol
It's just a lol, like any regular lol after someone says something even not funny, you say it just to be nice, or if it's not that funny.

lol!
It is very funny and it shows you are laughing loudly and actually care about the funny thing they told you.

Now, let's try some un-wanted punctuation (in my opinion)

lol.
The period kills it. It makes it sarcastic and (from experience) makes the person that said the funny thing feel kind of intimidated. By using a period after EVERYTHING it's like saying you are better than someone that doesn't. I don't know why it's like that just it just is.

lol?
That just turns it way off funny. First of all, how can laughing be a question. Second of all it is kind of like saying, "That wasn't funny, loser." It's just really annoying and is kind of mean.

Now Let's try some other phrases that might be common, and think about how they make you feel when you read them.

wtf wtf? wtf! wtf.

fail fail? fail! fail.

I bet that the exclamation mark and one with no punctuation made you feel like they were joking around as friends.

Now for 'excessive' or 'un-needed' punctuation. Let's jump right into the examples.

lol...
Again, very demeaning and sarcastic.

wtf...
Kind of a disappointing feeling, like losing a very good item.

Now for things that annoying me, still on this section of excessive/un-needed punctuation.

What helmet is that?????????????????????????
It's just very stupid, and, yes I'm going to say it, NOOBY!

Selling 12 air runes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Again, annoying and nooby.

Well, I think this post is getting a little long and you're probobly not even going to get to reading this. If you have though, thank you.

Tell me what you think and post anything else that has to do with punctuation in RuneScape that just isn't needed, or does some good in a conversation.

P.S. It is good to use an end punctuation if you are starting a new sentence in the SAME message.

True, I just get used to typing with punctuations and periods at the end of a sentence. This makes things so much easier when you go to type an assignment or homework.
But other than that, the others are pretty true to me.

haha its true punctuation has a lot to do with how you think someone feels about the conversation. Since we can't hear the person's tone of voice to see how they think it is we have to use punctuaton.

Personally, I think putting a period at the end of "fail" is funnier.

Typical MSN conversation:

keetun says:
I just spilled keyboard all over my Coke

fail.

It just adds to the awareness of sarcasm and facepalm.
