We've got the Typing test thread, but how about a Reading Test? This isn't as accurate mind you, but it can give you an approximation as to how fast you can read.

We won't be able to verify your answers, so please don't try to be the show off who has to have the highest score. Take your time and remember - if you skim, or generally don't understand what you've read after you are done, you weren't reading (at least not in the sense that this is measuring)

http://mindbluff.com/askread.htm

Here are my results, though you theoretically can't believe me just on the picture. You can click on any set of words at any point, and you'll get results. This isn't honest, however, so please don't get any ideas.

You read between 300 - 350 words per minute. Above-average reading level. (The average rate is between 200 - 250 words per minute.) It is assumed that you did not skim the words nor fail to understand the meaning of what was read.

You read between 450 - 500 words per minute. Well above average reading level. (The average rate is between 200 - 250 words per minute.) It is assumed that you did not skim the words nor fail to understand the meaning of what was read.

Meh

I read Finnish faster though.

You read between 600 - 650 words per minute. Extremely efficient reading level. (The average rate is between 200 - 250 words per minute.) It is assumed that you did not skim the words nor fail to understand the meaning of what was read.

I did it several times and it seems to me to depend on what piece of text you are given to read as much as anything else, I had JFK's inaugural address first and read that at 750-800, but got some novel second and only got 600-650.

400-450 for me. I believe I've gotten worse because I don't read as much. Plus I have a migraine as I tried to read it, so that might have affected my reading as well, I think. :P

Never been a reader tbh.
Reading a book for me is a pain.

I read two of the samples it had, the JFK speech being the one that I used for my score. The other was similar, though I think it was +-50 words per minute. It does depend on the text a bit, but it doesn't fluctuate too much.

I used the JFK speach.

"You read between 700 - 750 words per minute. Extremely efficient reading level. (The average rate is between 200 - 250 words per minute.) It is assumed that you did not skim the words nor fail to understand the meaning of what was read."

I can read very fast, but I pay barely any attention.

Here's one with me reading every word well:

"You read between 600 - 650 words per minute. Extremely efficient reading level. (The average rate is between 200 - 250 words per minute.) It is assumed that you did not skim the words nor fail to understand the meaning of what was read."
