I was brainstorming cool RuneScape skills yesterday and came up blank. I was mostly thinking combat-wise, but after practicing my clarinet that night, an idea hit me. So here's my ideas for the next RuneScape skill: Musicmaking!

Quest to start skill: Orchestrated Chaos
Description: The Varrock Concertmaster has troubles with his orchestra, mainly a band of goblins impersonating his players. You need to get to the root of the trouble & save the Varrock Symphony from messing up in their big concert.
Requirements: Completion of Goblin Diplomacy
Reward: 276 Musicmaking XP (to level 4), 1 quest point, RuneScape Theme music piece and a music stand.

How to train:
1. Right-click "Set Up" music stand, and use your piece of music on the stand.
2. Right-click your instrument and select "Tune". Or, if you're singing, right-click on the music stand and select "Tune".
3. Match the pitch using sliders on the screen.
4. Left-click your instrument to play it. Or, if you're singing, right-click on the music stand and select "Sing".
A. The higher your Musicmaking level is, the less likely you are to mess up playing a piece.
B. More XP gained if instrument is tuned.
5. For shorter pieces, XP is given per note. For longer pieces, XP is per piece (XP deducted if mistakes are made).
A. Bonus XP given if piece is finished w/o any mistakes.

Instruments:
Voice: Levels 4-15 (Different keys)
Woodwinds: Levels 16-20 (Clarinet [16], flute* [17], Alto Saxophone [18], Oboe* [19], Baritone Saxophone [20])
Brass: Levels 30-42 (Trumpet [30], trombone [34], tuba [42])
Strings: Levels 60-66 (Violin [60], cello* [62], viola* [64], bass [66])
Organ: Levels 83-85 (1 row of keys for 83, 2 rows of keys for 84, 3 rows of keys for 85)

Music would be F2P soundtrack music, with some members music for members to play.

Orchestras:
You could play with a clan in a concert hall in Varrock or Camelot, more XP than normal.

Minigame: (Orchestral Order)
- Take pieces of music & arrange them by section (section names are anagrams, substitutions, etc. [penalty for wrong choice])
- Tokens granted for each piece sorted correctly
- Tokens buy special pieces of music giving better XP & special instruments (sousaphones? :D )
- 1 token = 1 XP x MM level (so if your Musicmaking level is 53, you get 53 XP/token)
- About 15 tokens/game
- Other rewards: Conductor wands & suits, supplies (valve oil, reeds, drumsticks)

Peddling:
Musicmaking level x 10 = GP/piece (if you have 50 Musicmaking, you get 500 GP/piece)

Skillcape:
Purchased from the Concertmaster in Varrock
Emote: Player jumps up on giant musical notes (like in Agility emote), then spins back down to the ground.

Guild:
60 Musicmaking required
Concert hall & shop

Remember, this is just a concept. Don't reply with things like "This isn't real, noob!", or "Where's your proof?", because I HAVE NONE! This is just my idea for a skill.

You can reply with other things to add to this and I will add them, citing your name.

This sounds like a good skill but I have a few questions.

1. Would fletching crafting and smithing be involved? (for making instruments/stands)
2. Would profit be made from this skill and what item/items be given from playing music?
3. How much would it cost for each instrument/what supplies are needed to make them?
4. How much xp would you receive from each instrument you make?

Please respond to my questions, I really support this skill because of the fact I play cello.

1. I would think so, but since Fletching is a member skill I'd imagine only members could make simpler things (not more complicated things like in Crafting) like bows or reeds. Smithing the stand would be cool, I would have them use two steel bars, probably.
2. I think profit could be potentially made from either making instruments through Crafting (putting instruments together) or Smithing (making music stands worth more than the steel bars).
3. It wouldn't be very expensive for lower levels, like woodwind or brass, but that's why I think starting out with singing would be good because there would be no cost involved, and lower-level players could train it more easily. Supplies? I would say things like individual bridge/neck upper & lower body pieces for string instruments, and small metal decals and wood/paint for woodwind instruments, maybe an addition of a brass ore (or something like that) to be smelted & made into brass instruments, plus steel/tin for flutes.
4. I would have the required levels to make the instruments about 20 higher than the requirements to use them. So if you could imagine green dragonhide, you need 60-some Crafting to fashion it but only 40 Ranged to wear it. 60+ Crafting would be the level I would have for things like string instruments, maybe Clarinets at 40. Brass instruments would probably be solely Smithing, because they're made almost completely of metal. So maybe 168 Crafting XP/string instrument at max, 60 Crafting XP/woodwind instrument, 300? Smithing XP/brass instrument (requirement of around level 60 Smithing, probably) and a WAY higher level for things like pianos and organs , probably just XP for adding keys (pianos in POHs would be a good idea, maybe adding a Music Room at a certain Construction level).

The XP wouldn't be that high, more like the XP you get per pouch from Summoning, or something in that range.

But, is there really anything more to Fletching and watching your person make bows, or mining to watching your person mine ores? It's just like any other skill; point and click.

It's only my ideas at this point. If JaGeX were to use this as a skill, imagine the creative things they've done with other skills. In the recent Development Diary about run energy, they talked about watching musicians. You could play and have players watch you & recharge their run energy.

Perhaps Fletching, Crafting, and Smithing could be used to make the instruments XD

What would be its applications? How could people profit off of it?

doesn't seem to be complete enough to be a skill. Doubt it would be implemented in a game like Runescape.

All this really is is sitting there watching your person play music for no purpose. No money money can be made off this skill except peddling and it is very low. Example crafting makes you diamonds, emeralds, etc. Fletching makes you bows and arrows you can sell. Mining makes you ore you can sell. It needs some money making thing except for peddling

Sounds like a better skill idea than Firemaking.

I guess it could work... I think that instruments should be added into the game, but it shouldn't be a skill. Just items.
