Best game of 2008?

Since 2008 is *almost* over, what was the best game of the year in your opinion.

My vote goes for...
Saints Row 2

Because I like the fact you can build your very own caracter,choose the way he talks, etc. The controls are also very easy to learn and similar the GTA...Gameplay while driving is just perfect to me. Saints Row 2 surely beat the disaster that was GTA IV

DMC4/NG2 was the highlights for me i think. Pity gears online is so crappy, can't believe epic actually managed to **** that one up.

Technically, Call of Duty 4 came out in 2007, but it was the best game I played throughout 2008, so Call of Duty 4.

Gears of War 2 sucks.
To whoever hyped it up before release: **** you. Give me my $60 back.

Left 4 Dead.

Valve really surprised me with this game, the AI Director is amazing. You can play through the campaign 40 times, and every single time it will be different. The graphics are insane, the blood and gore is ramped up to 100, the creepyness is a little low, except for when you hear a witch the first time you will have the **** scared out of you. The witch is by far the most creepy thing I've seen in Left 4 Dead. I loved the tanks, boomers, and smokers' attacks in versus. The most amazing thing in the game though, is the replay ability. You can play through every campaign, and still want to play it over and over again. I also loved the fact that if you're in a tight spot, just take out a molotov or pipebomb, and you can clear out the room. I have saved me and my friends' asses so many times by using them for tight spots. The multiplayer in Left 4 Dead is incredibly fun, and if you like to make people really mad, you'll love this mode. You can play as a Boomer, Tank, Smoker, and Hunter. Hunters pounce on their victims, Hunters throw their victims yards away into a solid wall, a boomer vomits on their victims, which alerts the horde (normal zombies), and a smoker graps you with their incredibly long tongue, and will not let their victims go unless if they are killed. My personal favorite is the boomer, just to see tons of zombies rushing for your enemy. It's a great feeling just to **** up people's good time.

Left 4 Dead deserves the "Best Game of 2008" Award. Hands down, it is the best game of 2008.

The first zombie game I've played that really had those OH ****! moments. Valve picked a good target for a game, and then hit it dead on.

Yeah. Except those "OH ****!" moments are from about 200 zombies bumrushing your ***.

But don't get me wrong, there's some scary parts too.

Dead Space - for the classic (think alien) storyline, creepy environments & enemies, and the scares. Well it might've been more awesome than scary but I really liked playing it. Of course I never played Resident Evil so 3rd person horror was a new genre to me

but it also made me think again about what's really out there (Yeah, so did Mass Effect, if that didn't nothing will). The whole dismemberment strategy was pretty cool, along with the boss battles. There were just a lot of cool (if not scary) moments packed into 11-12 hours.

The best game of 2008 was COD4. The campaign was brilliant and it's online was revolutionary. Runner up would have to be Super Smask Bros. Brawl for the replay value.
