so I was talking to my mom, right, about thanksgiving. I told her that this year's pumpkin pie was going to be in the shape of pi. you know, like 3.14? the greek symbol. so i thought about that and said, "Well we're going to have to cut it into squares" and my mom laughed...i was so confused. then i got it and said, "but it's rather hard to find the square of pie" or square pie...whatever
aren't I lame? XD

Had to reread it because the wording was a bit confusing, gave me a little chuckle though.

3.14 = pi

"Cut it into squares" Plays off of the square of a number. When you square a number you multiply it by itself.

"It's hard to find the square of pie" Finding the actual square would be hard.

You just have to know your algebra to understand it

But yeah,
Nice accidental joke XD

Couldnt've explained it better. Just don't spread it around to algebra teachers or they'll say it was their idea XD

Actually, depending on how you look at it, it would be either extremely hard or impossible.

Pi is one of, if not the only mathematical constant we use that is quite literally never-ending. Thus, the square is never ending, making it equally hard to find. However, if you looked at the joke the way I did and thought they meant the square 'root', then it would be impossible.

I sort of get it now, but it's not funny. Also, why did your mother make a cake in the shape of pi?

Also, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematical_constant not even close to being the only infinite mathematical constant.

This reminds me of some lame saying that my Jr. High Algebra teacher told us to remember the formula for finding the area of a circle.

pi*r2

"Pie are squared."
"No, pie aren't squared."
"Pie are round."

Don't ask...

I think the natural number "e" is also irrational. Commonly rounded to 2.718, I still think it goes forever.

did it cuz I was bored but my friend found a site that was asking, is there a pi shaped pan and the answer was 'put it in a regular square pan and say, "this pie are squared' which is almost as lame XD
