Giving obese parents rewards seems a bit stupid to me personally. I mean what about the skinny parents that walk their children to school without being bribed to do so? Just seems kind of weird.

Well, seeing that America pays like uhm nothing for healthcare assurance, so they don't give a **** if you're obese.
In Europe (most countries though), if you get ill, you can get the money ( a big part of it atleast) that you've spent on medication/healthcare, back. So, alot of obese people => high health risk => alot of money down the drain=> motivation for anti obesity campaigns.
