Im shocked your country dosnt have a medal for being wounded or at least being killed. American troops get the Purple Heart for being wounded or killed in combat, and most of our soldiers who are killed get the Bronze Star. But even if your deployed you get a combat ribbon. Its always nice to see when soldiers are recognized.

Well im not 100% sure about this but i think this is how it works, if anybody is wounded in combat and is treated by a American medic you get the purple heart. So if a Uk solider is wounded in Iraq and treated in the field by a us medic he is a purple heart recipient.

Actually Bogg, British army has no such medal/award, however British did give out Wound Stripes during both World Wars after that the practice discontinued.

I never understood the purpose of medals.

If you kill someone in your own time, you go to jail, maybe the death penalty.

If you kill someone in war, you get a medal?

Somehow if i lost my leg in a war, I'd not be happy with a medal.

lol creepy. The purple heart is said to be one of the most honorable medals to get. It's basically saying you're so dedicated to your country that you were wounded in the process, and you still choose to be called an American. My grandpa got a purple heart, and it was the only medal he ever talked about.

Yah none of my grandparents served in the service, but my friends did. He has bronze star too I think...but he didnt die. He never talks about the war(My friend says). The medals are just up in his attic in a box somewhere.

Yeah, before my grandpa died he never talked about it. He just always talked about his purple heart and how proud he was to serve his country. It's not really surprising. The amount of mental stress and emotional pain the souldiers go through is enough to put any sane person in a mental institution, and they still manage to live that life every day for months on end. They really are the super heroes of our time.
