8 for 8 in Beijing

Guess who? Michael Phelps, and his winning streak of 8 gold medals as he took the last one tonight. Said by some to be the greatest accomplishment in sports ... it's beyond me to comprehend how incredibly difficult it was for him, with the pressure and whatnot. Since he apparently won the 100m butterfly (7th race) by 1/100ths of a second, there must be a little luck with his skill. As Mark Spitz said, there's only one word to describe his accomplishments: epic.

His achievements include 1st in:
400 Meter Individual Medley
4×100 Meter Freestyle Relay
200 Meter Individual Freestyle
200 Meter Individual Butterfly
4×200 Meter Freestyle Relay
200 Meter Individual Medley
100 Meter Individual Butterfly (starts at about 3:48)
4×100 Meter Medley Relay
(note, you might need a plugin to watch, might depend on country - and the videos have a lot of interviewing, maybe a commercial before they start)

I'll be remembering this for a while, not just because he's from the U.S. ... anyone have any more thoughts?

Only race he doesn't have a world record in was the one where he beat the guy by 1/100ths of a second.

He's my inspriration for this swim season...I have to swim:

:50 in the 100 Freestyle
:22 in the 50 Freestyle

Just gonna work hard and picture racing against him

He's unbelievable...

He's a hotty too, I hear.
Amazingly talented swimmer, though I never actually watched any of his races it's pretty hard not to hear about them.

the second to last race was insanely close. we really did not know if he would make it then he out touched the wall by .01 second. that's as close as you'll every get unless they start .001

Apparently, he only won the butterfly race, because he touched the wall harder than the other bloke. If they used their common sense they can blatantly see the other bloke touches first.

I believe that he much have been in that position before, because he knew to take another half stroke rather then kick his way in like the other person. so it was not so much luck, as it was experience, and training.

If the guy gets there by such a small fraction, anyone could say anything that makes it seem stupid. I'll just go with what the system took .. even though it's in China
