Everything You Don't want to know about fast food by Eric Schlosser the author of Fast Food Nation.

I've read this book, as part of my High School summer assignment, To mention this I have found the book to be fascinating on telling the secrets of fast food industry, and also I've in the book that today's teen which eats McDonald's a few times a week will receive equivalent heart disease as a man that is in his 30's and has smoked for 10 years just from eating fast for about 1-3 years. This book also tells about working conditions, slaughters, and under payed farmers from Tyson buys chicken. Now the book is good on explaining dangers of fast food, and what makes it so addictive and good tasting aka Science of food coloring and artificial flavorings.

So have any of you read this book, if so please state your opinion or discuss what I just wrote above. Recommended read for sure.

Yeah, I read it when I was 10 and found it quite shocking. At the time I was a real lover of fast food so it was a blow to me at the time. Since then I've been pushing fast food restaurants, and eating the home cook stuff instead. :D

never bothered to read fast food nation since it would pretty much be the same as fatland.
Spoiler for why supersize:

when mcdonalds was starting to become big fast food chain they only sold the small bag of fries. one of the representative thought that they should up the size but the higher ups said no. he went observing people and found that lots of people wanted more fries but they knew if they bought more than 1 bag it might make them look like a pig (go figure). he saw that people were run their fingers in the bag just to get that last bit of crumbs. after the finding the higher ups decided to give it a shot and sure enough large, medium, supersize sold fast.

a little while later they conducted another experiment where they wondered why people never bought that soda with their buger and fries. they found out that didn't feel like paying 10+ dollars just for that extra soda. that is why now fast food points have those meal where they dumb the price down to get people to buy that little extra.

My mother bought me in a big mac the other day, almost vomited at the sight of it. What have they done to the meat? It was like..greyish brown, i remember it being darker as a kid. Anywho refused to touch it. ;$

I don't need to read a book about it to know it's not nice, although i still have a thing for burger king. :oops:

Same here, but replace Wendys with Runza. It's a midwestern fast food chain. They're incredibly expensive though, even for today's standards.

For those who avoid fast food in hopes of living longer, more power to you. :P

I dont think they do that anymore. They got suied in early 2000ish because they claimed it was vegtable oil, but in fact it was beef oil.

i've never even heard of beef oil...who the hell came up with the idea to get oil out of a cow :|

I don't really know, but in france they use horse oil to cook fries, its true my dad said so, the book also mentions this.

When it comes to fast food I don't enjoy places like burger joints too much.

I enjoy what you could call *semi* fast food. Arby's is great, as is Subway and Quizno's.
