Hey everyone,

I'm going to be building a new computer soon and I wanted to see what everyone's opinions were. It's been about two years since I got my computer and I'm to the point where my motherboard is old, my graphics card is getting old and my process is really out of date. I'm noticing my computer lagging a lot more for stupid reasons. And really, it's just the time to get something snazzy.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811208009 - Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017 - Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128337 - Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703009 - Power supply
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227230 - Ram (Getting 4GB)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130334 - Graphics card (Unsure of this...)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827140026 - DVD/CD Burner
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136161 - Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116049 - Operating system (I want it for xbox 360)
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... s&cs=19&sku=320-6252 - Monitor

So I just need some help guys.. I've really been out of the loop for hardware for the past year. I'm trying to stay around $800 - $1200 and if someone says to get a Mac or put Linux on it, don't bother to post.

Nate

I would suggest not getting a cheap MB, since it is the most importaint opart of your computer.
Go with Windows Vista Home Premium.
Good deal on the Hard Drive
Nice CPU, L2 cashe is nice..
It's a nicegraphics card, but if you wanted something cheaper, the GeForce 8600GT's get the job done too, for half the price, I am currently using a GeForce 8600GT 256Mb RAM, and the new 8600's have DDR3 ram, so look into those as well.

Also, with Media Center you can record LIVE TV, so you might wanna think about a TV Tuner Card, you can hook up your Cabel, or Sattilight to your Computer and record shows.

Everything looks good, I would just say to Upgrade your Motherboard

Also, before you order, go to TigerDirect.com and look at there Barebones kits, you can get some great deals there, like Free RAM and stuff, so just something to take a look at. (Barebones = MB, Case, Pwr supply, CPU, and RAM)

Here is a BareBones kit, with a kick *** MB http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... o=3905991&CatId=2405

I think it might be a little to much, but it has a 500Gb SATA HDD, but on the down side only 2Gb of RAM. It has a better Power supply, and the case is a lot better too.
But another 2Gb of the same ram is only 24 bucks, http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... 079597&sku=O261-7054

I actually just built a PC with that same RAM in it and it ran great.

But yeah, just make sure you dont cheap out on teh Motherboard, remember with computer's it is only as fast as the slowest part, sure the CPU kicks ***, but if your MB has a slow transfer rate (Front and Backside bus) then it will slow down. People always forget about how importaint the MB is =-p

Hope this helped

Try for an 8800 GT for your video card, and if you have a spare XP CD lying around, use that instead of dealing with Vista.

Why? Microsoft is leaving XP behind, Vista is fine now, SP1 is out, Vista 32-bit version is fine, almost all programs work with it now. I have Vista Premium 64-bit and I dont have any software problems anymore.

He also needs a Xp License, just having a Xp CD does nothing. You can use a XP CD to load as many computers as you want.

I've had bad, bad, .... BAD experiences with Vista, and I don't ever want to see that OS ever again. I guess you're pretty lucky that Vista didn't do anything stupid for you.

But it's up to Nate if he wants to go XP or Vista.

Ya, Vista was bad until SP1 came out, it fix a lot of errors.

If your cofterable with XP then it's all good
