Hey, I'm just looking for a free virus scan that'll scan and fix viruses if I have any.

It can be a program I download or a program I run via website using the internet, either one is fine.

Thanks!

I would prefer something lightweight for my laptop, if you know what I mean.

AVG is horrible. I've made a post about it awhile ago, where I compared it to Kaspersky 7.

Kaspersky owns all antiviruses I've ever tried.

AVG is not horrible. It's the best *free* antivirus out there. Kaspersky isn't free persay. There's an option to get it free but they supplement it with ads, known as "TrialPay". Which is kinda ironic since then it's called adware :P

So no, just go with AVG free. You can get it from http://free.grisoft.com He wanted free. You may be able to get a version that is "free" but if it has ads what's the point.

Last year some tests were done and Eset's Nod 32 was found to be the best for overall not slowing down your machine. AVG free is using about 38M RAM on my system.

Thanks Shane. Is Eset's Nod 32 free, or where you just giving me a heads up on what program used the least of RAM?

Get AVG Anti-Virus. I only used it once to see how good it was, and it worked very, very well! Plus, it barely takes up memory.

I've got Nod 32 on one machine, and it does indeed work quite well and not lag the system in the process. However, if you want totally free and legit, you can't argue with AVG Free edition. It catches quite a bit, especially with version 8.0. It doesn't use hardly any RAM (less than 10MB idle and just over half with scanning + ~50% CPU) and detects infections quite quickly. Again, your best option if you don't want to spend any money.

Thanks, everyone. I'm just going to go with AVG.
