America is declining?

Spoiler for Quotes:

Quote:
"The U.S. was always No. 1 and assumed it would be No. 1 and acted accordingly," says Doug Rediker, a former investment banker and a co-director of the Global Strategic Finance Initiative at the New America Foundation, a Washington, D.C., think tank. "Now other nations are catching up. There are competitors fighting for market share in every industry. The U.S. is under pressure."

Quote:
The incredible shrinking dollar has also made America a great place for Europeans -- wielding their strong euros and pounds -- to go on cheap shopping sprees, swamping our department stores and designer boutiques to pick up bargains. The U.S., once an elite shopping destination, is becoming their giant outlet mall.

This has probably been going on for quite some time now, but I saw this and figured it was worth discussing :? India having four people in the top 10 richest suprised me though.

yeah it has been going down for a while now, which sucks.
I was actually reading a interesting artical. This guy was talking about how the USD is actually gtting to normal since it was really high int he 90's

Anyways, yeah I hate that the USD is going down, it sucks. also, since the dollar is going down, and oil prices are bought in USD dollars, that is why gas for us is going up as well.

History has shown time and time again you can't remain the worlds most powerful country for ever, something always happens.

This, in my opinion is for the best. I wont explain why I'm sure most can guess, it'll work out great.

Take a trip down the road, gas is $4.26 a gallon where i live. Naturally saving for college i have to watch my money so most of my money goes to fill my car up. I haven't been out to eat at a "sit down" place for at least 4 months now, or have i bought something from "from a name brad clothes place, AE, JcPenny" its wal-mart and taco-bell. Americans are just not spending money which will bring down the economy. The American dollar is here to stay, so sorry to who ever hates America because the U.S. Dollar is back by gold. For every dollar in circulation there is a Dollar of gold in fort knox, so In the long run The American dollar is still the most valuable just based on the fact our money is back by pure gold, dont believe me, look it up.

Think this has anything to do with Jagex raising their american USD price for membership?

Yes. It's exactly why - The dollar is weaker than the pound, the price stays the same with the pound (it might have gone up slightly due to inflation recently, i don't know, i don't play anymore) and the dollar gets weaker, so to get the same amount of capital the price in dollars rises slightly, even more so if the british price has increased coinciding with a downturn in dollar:pound.

Also, someone mentioned fuel - I'm always amused when Americans complain about the price of fuel, $4.26 a gallon is £2.13 (ish) a gallon.

1 US gallon = 3.78541178 liter

Therefore (in america) a liter of fuel costs 2.13/3.78541178 = 0.56268p, or (roughly) $1.12. A liter of unleaded petrol here is (where i live), at it's cheapest. £1.159 a liter, at it's most expensive £1.209 a liter. For diesel add about 15p a liter. This means that, again in very rough terms, to compare prices, petrol costs (1.159*2)=$2.318 a liter * 3.78541178 = $8.77458 a gallon in Britain, compared to $4.26 in wherever you live in America.

Don't complain about fuel - We have it much, much worse.

$4.06 a gallon.
Anyways, the gas here is the highest it has ever been in America. Americans aren't used to prices that high, so therefore, they complain.
I'm sure the UK had its share of complaints when the gas there went up.

I drive 23 miles to work then another 9 to school. How far do you paddle your bike, or do you take public transportation? Americans drive longer distances and there isnt a thing close to public trans unless you live in a major city so we have a right to complain

I drive about 10 miles to work, used to be about 2 to school but i'm finished my A levels. I drive mate, got a peugueot 306.

I think the fact that our fuel costs roughly double yours, and is still increasing, shows that we have much more of a right to complain than you do - I would **** love it if fuel here cost as much as yours did. I'd be in such a better place, financially, that i am now. Cost me £48 to fill my car up yesterday - I'd be over the moon if it was £24 a tank.

I don't actually remember a time when petrol was 50 something pence a liter - That's well before either my time or the time i started noticing it. When i started to drive it was like 85p a liter, that was around April 07.

To be fair, America is going through an economic downturn at the moment though, that petrol price might be a lot to you, even if to the British it would be an absolute godsend.

Out of curiosity - How much was fuel when you considered it cheap/fair, Kyle?

i would be happy if gas cost $3.50. We'll never see it again but it would be nice.

Ya, It true that places are more spread out in America, then Uk, and it is more of a shock to the way we are use to spending out money.

ANd Kyles price os $3.50 would not eb bad, I would think that 3 and under would be good.

But thats why it cost mroe for gas now too, Oil is priced in USD and since the dollar went down, oil prices went up, so it costs us more =\

I don't think the argument "things are spaced out more for us thus it's worse" really holds up, it's more a person by person basis that your judging that on.
