Strange, this forum has been around for quite some time now, but I don't believe I've seen a topic about our favourite games.

Thinking back, I remembered many games that I enjoyed so much, even to the extent where 3rd and 4th playthroughs were common. Some of the games I've played were absolutely stunning, visually, the music was incredible, the storyline intriguing, and the gameplay addictive. But after all that, I thought about the game I've played the longest, which was fun for the entire duration I played it. With over 300 hours (I know, it isn't a lot for us RS and WoW players, but this is a console game) committed to The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind, I think it would have to take the place of my favourite game of all time.

Image

There's just something about Morrowind that made me want to keep playing for about 4 years. I first bought Morrowind for the PC, which lasted me for around 200 hours. A few years later I bought Morrowind for the Xbox, which lasted me another 100 hours or so. Unlike an MMORPG, I didn't become addicted, the play time was spread over the course of many years. Things like mods and downloadable content made the experience continue for a vast amount of time. Along with the game also came a Construction Set, that allowed players access to the game code basically, constructing out own cities, people, and quests. We could then import these to the game and play them, or put them on the site for others to download. I distinctly remember making an army of Orcs in Glass Armour on an island that I had created, all chanting a war cry that I had recorded. It lagged my computer like hell, but it was epic.

Image

Another thing I love about Morrowind is the ability to do almost anything. If I want to join the Fighter's Guild and be a mercenary, that's fine, but if I want to live as a thief, stealing food and equipment from shop owners, I can. The game is just so open ended. There are 3 guilds you can join, the Fighter's Guild, Mage's Guild, and the Thieve's Guild. You can rise through the ranks and eventually become the leader of your guild, or you can join all three rule all. There's also a main quest, which leads you through a very exciting storyline and to the eventual epic ending. After the ending, you continue the game, there are hundreds of sidequests available, such as finding thieves in the mountains or recovering artefacts for a museum. As if that wasn't enough, 2 expansions were released for Morrowind, one involving the huge city of Mournhold, the capital of Morrowind, and one containing an icy continent with it's own unique storyline.

Image

Well, I may be rambling now, but those are my thoughts on a great game. I'd love to hear what your favourite game of all time is (you don't have to go as in depth as me).

Whenever a new games developer appears out of the blue with what they're calling "the greatest game of all time" I die a little inside. Because, let's face it, the greatest game of all time has already been created;

Image

It's a shame the majority of 3D sonic games just don't add up in comparision. This one was really the best out of the lot - the game is absolutely massive. To actually complete the game in it's entirity you had to go into the past in the first two acts of each level to destroy the metal sonic hologram and some other machine. This then unlucked the "good future" boss level on the third act of the level in which you then had to defeat that, obviously. Now, do that for the rest of the acts as well as collecting the 7 chaos emeralds and you my friend are god. I've never done it without cheating. ;D

Image

Sonic CD. Best game in the world - ever.

Such a pity the game was very underplayed because it only appeared on the vastly unpopular Sega CD. However it appears on Sonic Gems Collection for the PS2. Go buy it. :]

Thank the lord for creating this game:

Image

Odd cover because ... you never even see Darth Vader if I remember correctly ... hope that's real #-o

This game is basically what brought me into the world of first person shooters. (The events in here take place a year after Episode VI, so there's some freedom granted.) The game follows the story of Kyle Katarn, a rogue bounty hunter that used to work for the dark side, now works for the Republic. He travels to Nar Shaddaa and learns that his father has been killed by the all powerful Jeric, one of the dark lords in those days. However, the droid telling him this also has a disk that was found in his father's house. Unfortunately, he won't hand it over, so that's when the shooting starts. This cutscene describes it better. After that, Kyle gets his lightsaber, learns about the Valley of the Jedi, and goes on a quest to stop any dark jedi from using it. All in around 20 levels.

Image

Since I was about 7 years old at the time, I couldn't have cared less about the graphics. The levels ranged from exploring cities to escaping freefalling ships. Bosses in this game were creative, even if the lightsaber combat was a little stale. Going around blasting storm troopers never got old though, especially with the variety of weapons and force powers you had. The guns ranged from your own basic pistol to a stormtrooper rifle, crossbow, repeating rifle, rail gun (basically shot exploding charges), and concussion rifle. Although I summed the rest of the story up shortly, it was pretty epic (see the rest of the live action cutscenes). There was one specific moment when you could choose whether you wanted to follow the light or dark side. It would mostly go off of your decisions beforehand though, meaning if you went through town killing every civilian in sight, guess where you're going. I'll never forget the music either ... classic star wars tracks. Might sound lame, but those tunes are still stuck in my head. The cutscenes themselves were remarkable at the time, and I know there was a whole 'nother community for modding and multiplayer. I never went into it though, since the single player was enough to captivate me. The expansion - Mysteries of the Sith - had an amazing story as well, but going into that would probably take up way too much space :P

Image

The game didn't stop there, as it also leaded to Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, both great games in terms of lightsaber control and storyline. But nothing replaces Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 in my mind, and nothing ever will.

Probably one of the best shooters of all time, perhaps running slightly ahead of...

Image

Which was an awesome game too.

It's a hard choice between the two, since they were both outstandingly good.

Any of the Street Fighter games, especially Street Fighter II.

Why? Because so far nobody has beaten me since err... 2004. Yes. That's why. Also because I've not been to arcades for over 6 months now.

That game, was so bloody hard it was unbelievable, but I loved it so much. First epic platformer. I don't know how many of you lot will remember or even know about this game. Very, very old, but very, very good.

Defiantly the best game of all time in my book. Maybe not that many people heard of it. This game had the familiar concept from GTA series, you played the game a taxi driver who later on was force into joining the local gangster mob set in 1930's. One of the best elements in the game is the game's story itself, it blew the GTA 3's story out of the water. The whole setting of the game, all the missions were done to such an incredible detail that it made on of the best sandbox games out there.

What made this game different from GTA games is that it featured slightly different formula that GTA 3 used to have "go anywhere and do what you want". The game featured 20 different missions which all had different settings, but all took part in the same city. Although the game featured a separate "free roam" it wasn't what made gamers feel in love with this game. I can go on and on about praising how good this was, but save yourself the trouble and go pick it up for PC. You'll love it.

Driving was incredibly realistic in that game, very fun.

I just remembered my second all time favourite game, can't believe I forgot about this one.

Silent Hill 2 is the scariest, most disturbing game I have ever played. It's a third person survival/horror game, but unlike most in the series, it had an amazingly complex and the most messed up storyline I've ever witnessed. Pair that with the amazing graphics on the PS2, it became by far my favourite game on the PS2.

Seriously, anyone looking for a very good story MUST play this game. It has you question a lot of things in real life.

My favourite game of all time was Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption. I remember my dad finally buying it for me even though my mum refused to (she thought it was satanic or something). It was THE first RPG that I really got into. Even today, the Vampire series has a really rich role-playing online (and offline) community.

Image

One of the things that I liked most about this game was the complexity of the story. There are numerous Vampire races that are caught up in this huge web of politics with each other. Some races despise each other and others are allies. Along with that, you have to fulfill your vampiric needs by roaming the city and feeding on humans. The combat in the game was alright, but the story more than made up for it.

It was kind of tough, but I've got to admit: The best Game I've ever played and my most favorite..
TEAM FORTRESS 2

Team Fortress is basically the first FPS that I see really requires you to work as a team. Hence the name. What I really like about it is that I OWN AS A SNIPER! Also, it came from the people who made CS! BONUS!

I present you, the best game of all time:
Image
Star Wars Jedi Knight II : Jedi Outcast
This game is legendary, epic and whatever.
I played it for 5 years since release then I paused 2 years, and now I am active again!
The thing that is great about this game is actually the multiplayer not singleplayer.
I practiced also my english in this game and I still can't believe I was inactive for 2 YEARS!!!!
The people I've met in this game are just great and the whole jk2 community is just great.

This game features the one and only game character that I have ever liked, this one I don't really like, I love him. He's the lean, mean, sith killing machine!
Image
The first blow to the jk2 mp community was the page which removed all those "bugs" which we used to fight with the force, and in the new patch all you could do was fight with sabers - which was lames.
The new patch was for pussies that couldn't "force".
Kyle Katarn rocked. He was cool and wasn't like the other Jedis which I liked.
Image
It shows how good the game is when I played it for 5 years, 2 year pause and active now again :>
Some will say WoW crushes a game like this, but WoW will pass, jk2 shall never be forgotten, jk2 still has a nice active community but not really many people play and I'd just love if people came back... I'd love to go back in time....

The sandbox was very rarely used by moderators, site owners and admins, it was used by the regular member to have "fun". Flame baiting, spamming or whatever, I think it would have been only fair to ask what everyone else thought first. Regardless of the outcome, it would have been a lot less selfish (because removing it like this is) and would have gotten a much better response.

I spent so long playing JK2, the single player was so awesome, i remember how hard the starting levels where before you got your light sabre and how **** awesome it was when you got your force powers maxed.

I never liked the multiplayer however couldn't get into it, not enough control of the light sabre to make it feel like i was accomplishing anything by killing someone with it, over just getting lucky.

That was the last good jedi knight game, the whole academy stuff wasn't as good IMO, hopefully the new star wars game will bring it back to what it used to be.

My favorite game of all time is Counter Strike, even though I've only played it at my cousin's house, which we only go to about twice a year.
