well, the new pvp game is out, and despite shane's disaproval due to the ban of potions inside, its actually a pretty good game. now before you say "i die so freaking easy, this game sucks with all the ancienters, godswords, and dragon bolt users >:(", i'll say that yes, in members, it sucks because you die in a heartbeat. however, i play in free worlds. harder to kill people, but the extra effort is well worth the ease of staying alive.
so, this topic is a basic assortment of my strategies and comments for fist of guthix on the non-member's server. some of these may be communeable to members, but there are no guarantees seeing as attacks and armour are much more powerful in members.
also, THIS IS NOT A GUIDE. i want anything i've missed or any contributions you can make as well.
mk, first, the "rules" of the game.
THINGS I'VE NOTICED ABOUT FIST OF GUTHIX:
when you start the match, you can tell in advance whether you are hunting first or hiding first by looking at your game text. if the phrase "the effectiveness of your stats has been reduced," then you are hiding. if you don't see that, then you are hunting.
if you are low on run energy, its not a bad idea to retreat to the fist for about 20 seconds. the fist will charge your run energy as if you had 200 agility level or more.
you gain charges on your crystal every 3 seconds. if you are against the far walls you gain 3 charges every time, thus 1 charge per second. if you are at the core, you get 28 charges every time, thus 9.3 charges per second.
after you die, you will usually charge 1-2 more times when you fall to death and despawn.
if you use your tele orb while under attack, you will run off in the direction your opponent was. this could be good or bad. if you want to know which way to run from, leave autoretaliate on so this will happen. if autoretaliate is off, you will not run toward your opponent. leaving auto on will also let you know if your opponent was in combat when you teleported. if your opponent was in combat they will automatically run in your direction. the only way they won't just run strait back to you is if there is an obstacle in their way, or if you go inside of a teleport shack.
when you spawn at the beginning of a round, your opponent spawns almost exactly opposite of you on the other side of the arena.
when hunting, you will find you hit more often the closer to the fist you get, and if hiding, you will take more damage more often the closer you get to the fist, both from your hunter, and from the arena effect. thus: if your hunter finds you on the fist, you will die shortly after unless you do something.
there is usually a large group of people all on one tile in the fist. this is called the death dot. if you stand on this dot, it might make it harder for your target to find you, as when they right click to find you, they will see the "attack XXXXXXXXXXX" opiton for at least 20 other names, thus making it difficult for them to find you. if your opponent is dislexic, they will likely never find you. >_>
if you just used a teleport shack to warp, you will be unable to warp properly for about a minute. thus, don't get found for a minute or you'll die.
last and most important thing... USE YOUR RADAR!!! YOU WILL NOT FIND YOUR OPPONENT UNLESS YOU USE YOUR RADAR TO LOOK FOR THE LITTLE YELLOW ARROW MARKER. be warned though, that the closer to the fist you are, the less effective your radar becomes, because there's so many damned people there that the game can't take it >_> also, as a hunter your radar area seems to be reduced to about 1/2 its original area in terms of how close you have to get for something to register on it, even at the edges of the world. this sucks because its harder to find your oponent.
OK so, those are my general findings about fist's properties, so now its time to make some sence out of it.
GENERAL STRATEGY FOR FREELOADER FIST OF GUTHIX:
HUNTER:
for one, you should always assume you are hunting first and do the following checklist: am i set to run? am i wearing gear with good bonuses? did i remember to equip my arrows / staff to autocast with?
if the game starts and you are a hunter, start by bolting as fast as you can away from your spawn point, through the fist, and to the opposite side. this is where your opponent is. you've got a good shot at finding them before they've even equipped their stone. AS YOU ARE RUNNING THIS WAY, BE SURE TO SET YOUR AUTOCAST SPELL. for some reason you can't set an autocast in the waiting room even though you already have your catalystic and elemental runes there.
if you find your oponent on the oposite side, attack them strait off. don't worry about binding them. they're either going to teleport, which would make bind useless since you wouldn't be in combat and you'd lose them, or they'll try to run, in which case you'd only want them to stop if you were meleeing them, WHICH IS A DUMB IDEA. DON'T USE MELEE TO KILL PEOPLE IN F.O.G.
so, from here a number of things can happen and in any order, so you need to basically guess from here. this is one of the hardest parts of fist. finding your hiden opponent.:
1: you didn't find them at the opposite side:
do one of two things. run back to the fist hoping that they either used an arch to avoid you as you stormed at them, or used their teleport to get to the fist imediately and you missed them as they warped through you. this is a good option because if you're right, you can attack them. if you were wrong, then you can stand there for a few seconds to recharge your run energy to full. (its likely drained quite a bit by now anyway >.> ) this is usually the best move. after all, if you go somewhere else instead, and they actually did run to the fist, then they're getting the max charge untill you get back from the place you're checking now.
the other option is to run to the far east or west wall (whichever is closer) and see if they are hiding there. lots of people like to do this, and will teleport the second they see you. if they aren't at this one, go to the north or south wall next. (whichever was closer to their initial spawn). if both of these fail, go back to the fist to charge run energy. if you're lucky they'll be there.
2: my opponent is not at the fist or the walls.
whenever you've checked the walls and the fist, regardless of when you check, the next thing is to check the teleport shacks and their surrounding area. you should run around the OUTSIDE of the shacks. if you are on the fist side of the shacks you'll likley miss your opponent. if you find them here, they'll likley go into a shack. from there they'll do one of 3 things. 1: use their orb to teleport to the fist; 2: use the inside teleport to go to another shack; 3: stay in the shack expecting you to run off looking for them in the fist or another shack, then come back out when you leave. what i suggest doing is staying where you are for about 8 seconds. if they stay in the house, this will anger them that you're still there. they will likely teleport to another house. next, you run to the fist and make sure your run energy is back, then go to the house diagonal from the one you found them at originally. check it, then run to the one of the other unchecked houses, then back to the first house incase they didn't teleport.. remember to stay on the far side of the shacks incase they're just away from them. if they aren't at the original shack, check the last shack. 1: if they are back at the first house and they go back in, repeat this process. 2: if they are at any other house, and they go back in, assuming you found them very quickly, you should stand there for a good 15-20 seconds to let their hp drain since they can't teleport for a bit. if they haven't used their teleport orb yet, then only stay for the usual 8 seconds then check the fist, then come back if they aren't at the fist.
3: i've checked everywhere, but i can't find them!!.
for this one, you've likely got an extreme hider... an extreme hider takes advantage of the radar and runs into a shack before they come on your minimap. thus its as if they were never there to you. they sit in there and wait till they see you run away then pop backup. they can go the whole match like this. the only way to catch them is to see them go into a house, and even then its annoying as hell to get them in the open. occasionally they'll run into the fist when they think you're out on the edges searching for them. if you see them enter a house, its not a bad idea to keep running out to the edge, then run back at them with a bind ready.
on the other hand they may be doing what i like to do... orbiting. this is by far the most annoying. they'll stay on the edge and walk in a circle around the arena. you won't see them unless you orbit as well, or get lucky and run out to the edge while they're there.
thats about all i've got on hunting. eventually, everyone screws up. and when they do, thats when you'l have you'll likely get your kill. be aware the better hider they are, the more they'll try to predict you by basing it off what they'd do. thus, being spontanious can be good sometimes.
i'll be back with hider strategies later, but i don't want to type so much anymore >_> THIS IS NOT A GUIDE! i want your strategies too.
