Summoning Raised the max combat level to 138. I've been talking to alot of my friends and this issue has come up numerous times.

Now whenever I'm walking around or training I have to wonder.. Is that person really high leveled or does he just have a few summoning levels?

I think that summoning really shouldn't add to a person's combat level. But, thats just my opinion. What do you guys think?

No, I don't think it should. All it really is is pouch crafting... Pouch crafting ISN'T combat. I have to agree with you.

It's definitely ruined that "AWESOME!" feeling of reaching 100 combat, and I have a hypothesis that 75% of the people with 100 combat have at least 40-50 summoning.

no it shouldn't raise combat, but it should require at least the combat level of the monster you plan to summon
thus a level 3 can't summon a level 40 monster to own in a duel...highest monster could be a dragon minotaur (shield right half required) combat 126 with a dragon battleaxe and equivalent dragon armour = not bad imho.

Honestly you could say that about any combat skill.
"Is that 110 walking around with 99 strength or does he just have balanced stats"
I don't really think that's a valid argument but of course you could take it either way.

Back to the topic..
Summoning involves combat, it hits extra damage to the enemy.
I agree that it is a combat skill and it should raise combat.

I disagree with HOW it raises combat.
As Kirby said making pouches is not combat
You SHOULD gain xp by actually summoning the creature thing and actually making it attack things.
(1hit=4xp like strength, attack, defence)

summon shouldnt be counted in the combat lvl untill high lvls cuz takes alot of time and money to hit a max of 19? Summon just ruins accounts

I have to go along with all those who said no. It really doesn't do anything very effective when fighting and the help you do get only lasts a short while. More to the point it only works as a combat boost when in a multi-combat area and the familiar should be able to help in all areas if summoning is a genuine combat skill. I don't mind summoning as a skill, there's some useful (though not many) familiars, but the combat level increase seems a really poorly thought out side of summoning. Over lvl 120 combat was the recognised sign of a real high level combay player, now well...

It's like making slayer raise combat, it'd be stupid. Really wasn't needed.

I do not believe making a pouch has anything to do with achieving a combat level.

Good thing a combat lvl has nothing to do with how hard you hit/how often you hit/how often you dont get hit :-%

Making Slayer raise combat levels seems more logical than Summoning in my opinion.

Yeh, I'd certainly agree with that Ryan. It shows you actually are capable of lots of combat if you have a high slayer. And it takes a lot longer to get 99 slayer than it's going to take to get 99 summoner.

I dont like it, it was fine the way it was. whats next? agility affects combat? lets you dodge attacks and counter them like in A.C.? ( although that would be pretty cool)

That actually makes a lot more sense than summoning being a combat related skill.

Lol Actually I feel like I'm cheating.............I mean, summoning adding to my combat......
I only make the pouches. Don't think I'll ever use it for anything, couse I don't find it very useful..........

I just tried getting herbs from that Macaw thingy. Takes forever, couse that darn bird gets tired every special cast.
What a waste of time...........
