Here's a chance to use your spare CPU power to benefit mankind. Seriously! A team at Stanford University has been able to create a download client to allow your computer to help compute their problems.
What's this mean? By downloading the client, you are literally helping to solve complex biological problems (simulations, really) that can help cure diseases. They have over 250,000 computers (processors) helping out all the time, but a total of 2 million have helped since it began.
Download the client, run it, and enter the team number 102427, see how good we can do! If your computer slows a bit (technically, it should..The program IS designed to utilize the CPU) lower the max CPU it is allowed to use. Even a little could mean that a cure for some disease can come out a bit sooner.
Oh, before I forget..This program is seriously safe. It utilizes only HTTP programming to send/retrieve information, so your computer will remain safe. No javascript, or any other potential security risks are in the program. Even Steve Gibson is supporting this (listen to the netcast (aka podcast) for more information).
