suspension is definitly all that needed to happen here i mean a knife in school is unacceptable but felony no if there was a threat than yes a felony would be neccessary

A thing called "common sense" needs to enter the minds of school administrators.

Could that possibly be making fun of the title? :P

Anyway, I think a 10 year old is below the age where a child can actually be charged with a crime (I can't remember the name for this, but it has to do with them not knowing what they did was wrong, a certain age mark). But it is yet again an example of severe overreaction of schools today, which will eventually lead to a time where kids can't have fun anymore.

Pressing charges? You have to be 12 to have charges against you.

Honestly I think this is like where Cliff said "Common sense comes into play."

The police can press charges against her parents..

Anyway, what a stupid idea. What parent a) Packs steak for their 10-year-old daughter. b) Doesn't cut the steak up into smaller pieces c) Thinks it's ok for a child to bring ANY knife to school regardless.

Her parents deserve what they get. Maybe they'll stick to packing sandwiches and normal things like that

Yeah that's a stupid idea. Knifes are banned in schools completely here, they shouldn't be allowed under any circumstances.

Who does? O.o It's 10 year old, you'd expect they know how to cut a steak.

Maybe they thought that the administrators of that school weren't a bunch of idiots?

I could when I was ten. :?

Anyway, it does seem kind of realistic for them to take it away, considering all the bad in this world, I mean, whats so wrong with say, taking a gun away from a kid and he says its just for a science fair, or something.

If you two think it's ok to give your children a sharp knife, a stake knife of all things then er..you might want to rethink that. It spells disaster.

I'm with MQ, I'd not give a 10 year old a knife either.

Alright, let's say that her parents are indeed the morons I thought that they were and decided that it's ok to send their child to school with a knife-- even if just to cut her food. What if some kids started picking on her for something and she threatened them with it? What if she cut herself on accident? What if she let another kid play with the knife? Kids at that age do not have good self-control and they have barely-matured ideas of right and wrong. This is why parents exist. To guide their children to make the right decisions and ensure them from being put in a situation where they'd make a wrong one. In this case, the parents neglected to even consider that this might be putting their child in a dangerous situation. Shame on them.

The only people who are disagreeing with me on this topic are 14-16 years old and I do not expect them to know what it's like to be responsible for the welfare of anyone younger than them.

Haha, I know right? But I guess taking away the knife was understandable. Seeing as she had a STEAK police were not needed.

And even if she did bring a knife for threatening, charges are not needed in my opinion.
