Go to the Knowledge Base and search the phrase "bulldog". It will come up with a simple animation of a RuneScape character being followed by a bulldog.

Is this a harbringer for an update regarding dogs (to serve a similar role as cats)?
Discuss. ^^

If we do get dogs, I hope they make them useful than just for following you- and update cats for something useful. There is not much point in any of the pets so far, in my opinion. When I first got my pet rock after Fremenik Trails, it was fun. The cat was fun too. But they both got boring afterwards. Besides quests, the most useful thing cats are good for is trading in for death runes.

One small thing, are pets ever useful IRL?

Yes, they can be. But what's "useful" or "useless" in real life isn't necessarily useful or useless in a game.
There are dogs that help the blind get around. That's useful in real life, but wouldn't be in a game. There are guard pets. Pets make you happy, etc. Though I may enjoy playing with my cat in real life, I rather not play with my cat in RuneScape.

Even if someone consider pets (or anything else) to be useless in real life, you don't need to put them in the game and make them useless there. Why pack a game with pointless stuff because it's pointless in real life?

Yes, they can be useful like ninjas and stuff.

Well, sorry for irrelevance but in real life pets don't become boring after a while, I mean, its not the same... In a game you won't play with a virtual cat because its not alive and its not as fun as a real one. Therefore the virtual pet must have a use with link to the game otherwise its just useless

ok g'nite gotta go sleep lolz.

If I here someone say that again I'm going to punch the wall. Look the point of Runescape is to do and be better in things you don't normally do in real life. How many people go out and cut down trees? I know some...it isn't as glorious, as profitable, or as rewarding as it is in game...but that is the point it is meant to glorify a normal life activity. But in the end...woodcutting is still woodcutting.

Let us say you have a pet...in game you glorify that pet. They can probably talk or do cool stuff (being a fantasy game and all), but if you start having pets build houses or cast spells it just takes away from any real life relevance that pet may have. It is no longer a pet...it is a tool. If while woodcutting you can summon an ent...what the hell is the point. Ents may appear, but the general purpose of woodcutting in real life and in game is to cut wood. The general purpose of pets in game and in real life is to be pets...not tools.

And yes for the final time...Runescape seems to mimic and emulate real life activities (generally of the dark/middle ages era).

RL Pets aren't useless, some of them are companions for the aged and others are fun for children.

I do hope they get rid of the 'pick-up' cat option for other people's cats, it's really annoying.

You should be able to train them to aid you in combat.

But how would you use that usefulness in RS?

You wouldn't, it has no use. That's why Jagex are bringing out dogs and the possibility of other animals too.

To be a pixelated companion for someone.

Doesn't really bother me, I just hope the remove that pick-up option.

I have seen this in the knowledge base before, I don't think it is related to the possibility of dogs coming into the game, it's just a nice picture :o

this has been there for a while but cool nonetheless. I would think they would be working on some sort of thing with dogs anyways, so...yeah

In other news it took me forever to log in cause I hadn't been on in forever and I forgot that Mike i think it was was awesome and nice and changed my user to gamer4250 instead of gamer425 :D
