What keeps you playing RuneScape?

Curiosity really. When you cut the crap, it's clicking a mouse over and over.

Yet, I've played it for years and years now and so have many others. So what is it about RS that keeps you playing?

For me it used to be the competitive side, i used to be in the top 5k for pretty much every skill if i remember right, i liked beating all my friends and i liked being or trying to be the best.

Eventually i find you hit a wall going that route, RS is a game that takes a lot of time to be good (well, not so much anymore, it's getting easier and easier) and at some point you reach a point where, in order to go up the ranks and pass those in front you need to start playing a lot more to keep up exp wise.

Combine that with jagex constantly making things easier and making me feel like my hard work is a waste of time and i stopped playing like that. And started playing to pk.

Did that for awhile but again, fights started getting longer and longer i found myself in 5+ hour fights, then 7+ hour at which point i dropped out, far to much time wasted and it's still increasing with fights going on for 10+ hours now adays.

So now, well, i don't really play at all. I've lost any..inspiration or urge to play really, hopefully i'll find something to inspire me and get me back into the game though.

So how abouts you?

RuneScape gives me something to do. It constantly updates, so it saves a bit of money when you compare it to gaming systems that have each game cost $40 for a game that can never be improved.

At any rate, it's a game, so I enjoy having fun whilst playing. I suppose if I ever stop having any fun whatsoever, I'll quit. Until then, I'm staying.

I don't know. xD It gives me something to do, and most of the time, I don't need full concentration for it. I enjoy getting levels up I feel proud that even though it's only pixels, I've accomplished something.

All in all, I ifnd it quite fun and relaxing.

When I first started years ago, it was all for fun. By the time I got done trying out all the skills and doing some quests, it became such a competetive game. Runescape was no longer fun after the first 8 months or so, because all I was doing was repative monotonous tasks such as Cooking for 4 hours at a time. Like you said, early on it was easy to rise through the ranks on the highscores, but when I got into the higher levels I ended up losing ranks because I didn't play as nearly as much as anyone else. What's the point of training when I'm losing ranks as I'm doing it?

I tried the Pk'ing aspect of the game, but I found it just as boring, and eventually went back to skill training. I've been playing on and off like this for 2 and a half years, taking month long breaks here and there. When I decide to play again, it becomes fun because I haven't done it in a while, but the excitment wears off within the month.

One of the main reasons I continue to play regularly is because of the people. Sometimes I stand in one place just talking to friends or on the clanchat. Having cnoversations with clan members or some of my friends is way more entertaining than clicking a mouse for 3 hours.

If Jagex wants to keep a large portion of their players, they have to introduce something other than a boring skill or some random quest. The clanchat provided us with something nice, but the excitment sure won't last.

To be the Number One. I have since surpass all my friends. To keep me going, I look for a worthy pacer. Someone who is active and ahead of me by at least 5 lvls. I will use him to push myself to train. :]

The thrill of staking and pking. That's mainly all I do nowadays, everything else is just repetetive and somewhat boring. Either that when I'm really bored I go around doing some dumb stuff on a random account.

But mainly, it's just something to do and usually takes my mind of things. I've gradually been playing less and less though.

I guess when I look carefully enough there's a hell of a lot more in the game which should make me stop playing rather than stay;
- Pures abusing every exploit and therefore causing a nerf (granite maul/abyssal whip for example)
- Goldfarmers, which you probably won't get in Halo 3 :p
- Everyone's better than me, especial;y that guy killing aberrant spectres in blue dhides.

But what keeps me here is probably;
- Updates, whether I use them or not
- Slayah
- And like Shane said, it's nice to just come home from work and chill.

I quit...it got up to me and I just couldn't have fun anymore doing anything. Even Barrows got boring...I just lost the thrill.

i wanted to quit so i went to barrows..(on main) and i took full drag,full v, full torag, and guthans.. took my 180k alchs and all my cash(172mill) and went into dharoks didnt turn prayer on(on purpose) and killed my person with all that stuff and i also had skull.. but a month later i wanted to play again but my new account if alot richer and better than him..(not better but i have learned more about to game)he was lvl 125 and my new account is 106 but i have 3 pure a tank(c a b e z a) and pures..-ix pk rng ix and r a i n i a

Getting 99 in my skills and it gives me something to do when I get bored. As well as the Rsbandb update.

The only thing that keeps me playing is quests. Thats all I ever do on RuneScape anymore. If it needs a certain lvl in a skill I'll get that level, do the quest and probably quit for a month and do a new quest the month after.

I like setting goals and seeing if I can reach them. Lots of ways to do that with all the skills and quests.
