I don't think there are actual "Emo's" - people who actually are the real definition, who are feeling down, don't describe themselves as "Emo", and those who do define themselves as "Emo" (the pathetic p****s) are just 'Scene kids' following the latest trend and looking for attention ("Oh, I cut myself, sure i did it with a pencil sharpener blade, but LOVE ME!") O_o..sorry if noone agrees but thats my view.

You can always spot an emo by his hair/clothes. Personalitys are always different. The crap about crying and cutting wrists are just jokes like all goths are devil worshippers and stuff.

It's the chav generation, if your not in a baseball cap with sport clothes then you're a freak and bad for being different.

Emo-tional. They seem quiet most of the time.

Typical outfit I would say consists of drainpipe jeans, converse shoes, various colour hair with the fringe over one eye.

I've never seen or heard any emo cut their wrists.

Well, I'm a Emo.

I dress, look, and act like one.

thom, we Emos (THE REAL ONES) don't cut ourselves.

Gothics don't worship the Devil, and Emos don't cut themselves.

Emo is a stereotype commonly used by others to discriminate people with longer hair than normal (normally dyed black), that listen to punk rock music and also people who self harm. This was derived from a phase in the 90's where 'emotional pop rock' became popular, and the term emo grew from.
The emo subculture tends to listen to punk rock, wear drainpipe jeans and have hair covering one eye. This is myself.
But some people portray emo's and self harming, wrist slitting, crybabys that do nothing but cut themselves all day. This is untrue, and many people at my school ask to see my wrists (which are perfectly clean) and accuse me of being a self harmer, which I constantly get bullied for at school. This type of emo is a fake one, as Steven said, and self-harming is caused by people who aren't really following life's path. It is very dangerous.

Ohhhhh you didn't say that :P
Emo music and Punk music is totally different - punk is upbeat, with great lyrics. Emo music is whiney, sung by people who try to go all Hardcore Metal but end up screaming without the proper Hardcore shouting and all that grring cr*p.
Emo; bands like Thursday.
Punk; NoFX, Lagwagon, Streetlight Manifesto. (You can tell which I prefer :))

You're making us Emos look bad...

We don't cut our wrists, we don't even cut anything on us. People who cut themselves are not Emos, just morons.

I don't like Punk to be compared with Emo either, but the thing with definitions is, they're unbiased. Which is the main reason I can't say what Emo is. :(

Just wondering...have you ever thought that they might have massive problems (emotional problems, e.g death in family, a family member/ friend in hospital etc.), and presume that no-one can help them, so they become withdrawn, sit on their own at lunch or something, because they dont want other people to know about their problems?

my point is, don't judge a book by it's cover.

I don't like people who tag themselves, if people act all emotional and clearly are what people define as 'emo' by nature it's fine. But when people go around acting like something they aren't just because they want to give themselves that tag, it gets rather pathetic.
