Sony Drops the price of the PSP to $169.99

Sony Corp. cut the price of its popular PlayStation Portable, or PSP, hoping to boost its share of the portable-games market. Sony's U.S.-based videogame division said starting today it will sell the "core" PSP in the North American market for $169, down from $199. While this is the first formal price cut on the PSP since its launch two years ago, the PSP is still more expensive than Nintendo Co.'s DS device. Sony said world-wide shipments of PSP devices reached 25 million at the end of 2006.

I am very happy about this. Hopefully, people will see that the PSP is really worth getting and the DS is not.

Disclaimer: I am not a Sony fanboy. I personally think the PS3 is crap and the PS2 isn't as good as the Xbox. I am, however, a fan of the PSP.

They can cut it as much as they like. Their dreaming if they think i will ever pay over £150 for a freaking hand held.

Nintendo DS is still going strong, doing better and is a lot more fun at £100.

Nintendo = general audience, game interface

Sony = Fanboy, blazing graphics, HC ppls

Xbox = Not sure why ppls like them

what! PSP is amazing, i have to go to college everyday on train and when i get bored whip out the PSP and first class entertainment right there.

I think the PSP is priced well good, for the stuff you get, like graphics, the games, the amount of things you can use it for, e.g. Internet and Music. Also it can even store pictures. That not bad for £160+ thats why i have one

Yeah you should, could do link up on some games then lol. I dont see why people dont like the PSP theres nothing wrong with it to me

It's the price i don't like. I don't care if it can store pictures and songs, so can a £10 MP3 player and that's exactly what i'd buy if i wanted to listen to music.

I buy a hand held for my gaming entertainment, i'd not buy a PSP cause the price and the lack of decent games (compared to the DS.) just makes it not worth the time.

To be honest what is wrong with the price? And the games? DS has games like mario and thats about it while with PSP you have decent games like Call of Duty, Medal Of Honour, GTA, Fifa Football, so i dont get how the DS can be better then PSP.

All of which i can get on my 360, with multiplayer support. And it's decent looking.

To claim the DS only has mario is silly and shows you've not even looked into it. I stand by my comment that the DS has better games, i've looked at both the PSP and DS and the DS is beating it hands down.

+ You could just look at sales figures.

Well the figures show that PSP is lower then DS, but I still dont get how you can say that DS has better games. For one the PSP has better graphics and also the PSP gets updated via internet. Overall il still say that PSP is better at everything then the DS.
